Default Garmin GPS

I was givena new Garmim GPS as a retirement present to help with directions. I went to type in my new address in Buttonwood and the gps wouldn't accept it, giving me a few choices...none were Kincord Court. Later today I registered the unit and then went to download a new map. Garmin says no upgrades available at this time. What does that mean? Once I register the unit I have 60 days to receive a free upgrade. If no maps are upgraded, will I have to pay for the upgrade when it is available and if so...how much do they charge??? How come every thing I do to help simplify my life becomes so damn complicated???

When I got mine the 60 day deal was the same. I think you should wait until the sixty days is almost up. I bought the lifetime updates and i think it was $99 for 4 updates a year, got it from best buy. Look for coupons in mail or weekly sales for the best deal. You can buy single updates for less, but the lifetime deal is much better. Might want to try Amazon also

Yeah, I got my lifetime update card from Amazon and I think I paid $90. Great deal. I update mine the 4 times a year. I'm totally amazed how thorough they are with their updates.

Tom
You most likely have the latest map update from Garmin in your unit. The latest is Navigator North American 2011.20. Now the Garmin web page leaves a little to be desired in getting around but here are a couple of links that will give you an idea as to what areas are covered.

I hope this works. The first link is drilled down to an area of TV that will show you what is covered in the latest addition. As you can see most of the new area of TV is not included. It usually takes 6 to 9 months for NAVTEQ to get their vans into the area to get the readings and update the database.

In cast that did not work try this link and you will have to drill down and move the map around to get to TV area. I wish they had a drag feature and use the mouse to zoom in as that would make things a lot easier.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...56#coverageTab

You may have to cut an past the links into another tab or window to get them to work.

The life time update is available from Garmin for $89.95.

THanks Hawkwind and everyone else. I just went on Garmin and it said there are no updates. I'm sure they have other address such as my friends who have lived in TV (Poinciana) for 4 years. He is just off St Charles, as am I (1.7 miles) If the garmin can get me to there- I can find my way home. I think

Our road just started appearing on mapquest last week, Tom. I kept telling everyone it won't show in GPS or mapquest, then a friend who came to visit this week called and told me it was on there. My GPS tells me where to turn in TV but it doesn't list the streets.

Tom
Kincord Court can be found on MapQuest at this time. Now both Garmin and MapQuest get their maps from NAVTEQ and if the past is any indicator then your street will be in the next update. Garmin usually follows MapQuest by a few months or at least the next update or two.

I do have version 2011.20 and will load it into my Garmin to see if it indeed covers Kincord Court.

Thanks for the research Hawk. You and everyone else in TV has been so helpful with all my posts.

Default No Buttonwood!

I live in Buttonwood also. The closest I can get Is St Charles and Bonita, I think. Try an address right out of Buttonwood.

I bet your address will be on there by the next quarterly upgrade, or at least the one after that. It does take some time to get new streets into the system. I agree with those who recommend purchasing Garmin's lifetime map ugrades when your free upgrade period is over. It is a great deal!

I loaded the map version 2011.20 and tried entering both addresses on Kincord Ct. and Buttonwood Run and nothing was found. I then browsed the the map and drilled down and nothing was found in the area. You see exactly the same map the I posted in this link.

http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/mapge...229&smap.y=111

So the bottom line is that you are going to have to wait until the next release and hope that it is there.

Default FWIW -- Home address

Putting your home address in any GPS gives car theives a quick route to your unattended home, or if you are far away, they might call evil friends in your home town to hit your house -- Anyone, especially in new area's also can enter a nearby intersection, landmark or business for the home address and get you very close with out creating possible location problems -- Better safe than sorry -- Garmin is a great GPS -- Main roads on maps don't change much and new areas lag a few months, but businesses and some addresses change more often -- Hope this helps, Lucko

I hate to sound provincial (or like a stubborn old guy) but for 5 bucks you can get a really complete durable MAP.

I have a map. Updated with my street. But the point is, "With the advance of technology I fel GPS and Garmin should have a faster and more accurate way to update their systems. PS: Suppose I have a visitor coming a long distance and they don't have a map and are relying on their GPS?
