And what about all the companies that have their corporations set up in a PO Box in the Bahamas just to avoid paying US taxes.

Interesting link below. Click on the car maker and you can see where the car is built and where the engine and transmission were built. It also shows if the plant is union or not.

At bottom it shows the cars and trucks that are built in Mexico and Canada.

For the OP (skip0358) - Congrats on getting a new car, a good deal, and getting treated well!

congrats also, here is a stretch. shopping for a car, new or used, is worse than going to the dentist for me! my daughter is in need of a car, pdq, used of course. Low costs as she just starting working full time. the stretch is, any helpful hints on where to look around here? better yet, anyone willing to accompany me to the dealership. LOL. never know until you ask! scared

Default 'American' vs. 'foreign'

I drive a Toyota product built in California. Two vehicles ago, I owned a Chevrolet made in Canada. Hard to pin down that 'American' and 'foreign' any more.

In the April issue of Car and Driver magazine, there's an article called Domestic Bliss, A Look at what's "Made in America". See p. 20-22. Quite interesting........and revealing as to what is considered to actually be an American vehicle. The article states that for cars built here, 75% (by value) of a vehicle's parts must come from the U.S. or Canada to be considered a domestic vehicle. Less than that and it's not.

I'd scan the article and include it here but I'd probably get taken out back and shot by the administrators - - - and justifiably so since the material is copyrighted. And unfortunately, I couldn't find the content on Car and Driver's web site.

I like the service at Ocala but I'm not sure about the sales side. I was up there for service so I talked with a sales rep while I waited for my car to be ready. They have alot of dealer installed options on all the cars I looked at, which added several thousand dollars to the price.
They offered my more on a trade-in on my 2010 Accord than I paid for it. I was looking at a 2011 CRV. I tried to get them to give me a price on a car without the dealer installed options. No deal. I knew their gimmick was the dealer installed options and I knew they wouldn't offer me anything like that trade-in without those options but it was an entertaining way to spend a morning. I had no intentions of buying another car anyway but sitting in the waiting room was boring.
