Termite treatment expires in 2018
Have had termite check for the last 7 years all is good They are running a special in the next couple days for termite around the house treatment with 10 years guarantee $299 in lieu of $499 Your opinions |

Sounds like a good deal if your year to year guarantee has expired. But, I would check with Dean's to see if they can give you a better deal. They will want your business. I believe in having a termite warranty in place.

I don't think that they actually 'treat' a house unless they see termites. I don't think that the EPA actually allows it.
These 'termite' programs are more like insurance where they do yearly inspections and if something gets eaten, then they pay for the repairs. If they find termites, then they 'treat'. |

The proper treatment involves drilling holes every 16 inches around your entire house and injecting a poison chemical into the soil. If they will do that for $299, that is a very cheap price. Anything else would be a waste of money.

According to the Massey person we spoke with, it's actually a substance that the termites pick up and carry back home when they go out from under the slab to forage for food to bring back. The substance screws up their DNA, he told me, so they don't reproduce or so they croak before they get old enough to reproduce (something like that). They drilled small holes in the courtyard concrete walkway near foundation, to inject under the slab. The termites go in and out thru that barrier and pick up the altering substance to carry back to the relatives. Massey covered the holes so well with concrete and the colored paint/putty that they are undetectable. It's worth it to do the annual warranty with inspection ($100+/year) , AND to do the 8-9 year under-slab treatment. |

I'll keep saying this to the day I die.
I've moved to Florida in 1983 and have never had a termite contract and never had termites. Pest control companies have put the fear of God into the residents here; they tell you what you think you need to hear; they are seasoned salespeople! These chemicals are poisoning the ground and ground water and at some point, The Villages will turn into a chemical wasteland! If you want to feel comfortable, have an inspection every couple of years. It you have an issue, THEN treat it. Stop the indiscriminate use of these chemicals when you really have no reason to use them. Peace of mind is in the inspection, not the chemicals.

Massey tried to sell me a program to treat dry wood termites stating that they are very common here in TV not just subterranean termites. BS to that, these people feed off your fear of such pests that are rare at best.
Does anyone know of anyone in TV that had a termite problem in a home, excluding trailers and/or manufactured homes, that was built in the last 10 years???? This is like radon testing up north, cover your sump pump and you'll pass the test every time, keep it covered and there will be no radon in your home. |

I would continue to protect your home and be able to show written proof that it has been under continuous protection, if for no other reason that you some day decide to sell your home. Being able to show a buyer that you have been on top of the termite protection has tremendous value over someone who has ignored it. Just my two cents.

Wish that was true, and possibly is if your radon level is borderline. I had our sump covered and radon levels fluctuated between 3 to 4 times the recommended level. Had mitigation system put in and now 1/3 the recommended.
