Default screen for garage

I do not know if this has been ask in the past (probably) so I apologize if it has.

We would like to know where you went to get the screen for your garage - and the approximate cost.

We have a 1 1/2 car garage - and do not know if the movable screen or the screen that comes up like the garage door is best. We lean toward the movable screen.

Can anyone give some advise or figures.

Thanks

Default Garage Screen

I have had both types of screens. In fact, I have had all three types. I did not like the moveable one because it always seems to be in the wrong position when returning home.

I had the screen that goes up like a window shade and the only problem with that one was that one of my neighbors walked thru the screen when it was down and did a great deal of damage. (However, I have this type of screen on the house I am buying in TV).

I had the garage door screen in my last house in TV and really liked it. It uses part of the same track as the garage door and I found that satisfactory. You cannot have both screen and door down at the same time. It is a little more expensive, but it is a stronger constructed door.

The horizontal sliders are the cheapest, but they always have to be moved by hand and yes, they are always in the wrong place. If you have a car and a cart in a 1 1/2 garage they are a pain. Vertical screens are motorized, with super convenient remote controls. The screens which operate on the same track as the garage door are much more expensive than those on separate tracks. I'm not sure why, but they actually have the disadvantage of both not being able to be down together. If the vertical screen has a light screen color, they look like a door and are very private from the outside. From inside, you can see everything, but the look is different. I think someone would have to be rather impaired to walk into one. The separate track vertical was an easy choice for me. The I got lucky and found one in a TOTV ad that was slightly used but had to be removed when the owner bought a new (Par Car) golf cart. It was too high to clear the extra few inches which the roll-up screen boxes need. Then I hired the Solar Guys to install the unit, which they willing to do even though I had not purchased it from them. They did a great job for a very reasonable price.
If I didn't know better, it's stuff like this that makes me feel really smart.

So the screens are purchased from the Solar Guys? I did not know who to call to inquire. Any other companies sell/install the garage screen?

Default Love Our Garage Screens

We got ours from Romac, the garage door people. We have the sliding kind which cost under $700 for a two car garage. That's with the upgraded white privacy screen. We actually paid less for the two car garage screens than we did in spring 2007 for a 1 1/2 car garage. Guess the slow economy has reduced the price.

Yes, they can be a pain to have to move back and forth but we think, for the price, the benefits outweigh the inconvenience. Our garage is well ventilated and cooler, we don't have to worry about "critters" coming in the garage, and our neighbors across the street get a nicer view rather than "the ugly open garage look". I'd recommend them!

Default We installed a "skeeter beater" because the have

the break away channel. If per chance some one walks into it or dare we say, backs up through it because they thought the door was open (don't laugh it happens)....the screen has a break away feature that allows replacing back into the track which can be done by the owner.
Double garage, with solar screen, finest mesh, two buttons on the house and two remotes for the cars.....ran around $2200.

You will love it in the non hot seasons of the year. Worth every penny spent!!!!!!

We, too, have the roll-up type screen. It was installed by Michele's Hide-Away Screens out of Ocala. Hubby has backed into it twice (thank goodness it was him and not me!) and the screen held. It bent the devil out of the frame and pulled it loose, but no damage at all to the screen. I can't imagine a screen you could ruin by walking into it. We have the one that is solar coated and the only way to see in is to walk up to it. Makes the garage much cooler in the summer, too (also keeps out the critters). I think they've gone up a little since we got ours, but it is well worth the money. It can be down at the same time as the garage door, but what would be the point? Bottom line: love it! One of the best investments we've made since moving in.

Yes, the Solar Guys do install the roll up screen systems. I suggest you also do an internet search of "garage door screens" to see if there are other vendors nearby and to learn more about how the three different types work.
