Angry Spectrum Customer Service Person was completely dishonest

I have been a Brighthouse customer since moving to the villages in 7/2013. I got sick and tired of seeing ads for bundle prices less than 90$ while I was paying over 200$ monthly. I was told that if I put my wife's name on the account that I could get the new account deal. When I called and inquired about this the CS rep said that I could not do that. She asked me if I could hold for a few minutes and she would get back to me. After about 10 to 15 minutes she came back on the line and said that she could give me a rate of 166$ including taxes. I said sign me up. She told me all they had to do was replace the modem. As an added benefit my internet would go to 100 mps. Today they came and the tech said that the work order was to remove my 2 dvrs, and my 2 dta boxes and nothing about the modem. I told the tech that he was to replace the modem which he did as well as the dta boxes. The dvrs remained. While he was still there I checked the internet speed on 2 different computers and the best i got was 38.7 mps. When i questioned him about this he told me to call customer service. I called and they made an appt. for 12-2 pm today for a tech to check for the problem. In the mean time, my wife is watching the tv and notices that some of our channels were missing. I called CS again and they told me in order to get the channels that I did not have that I would have to go to the next tier for an additional 12$ a month. I asked for a break down of my services as they stood. It tallied 198$ and not the 166$ that we had discussed the day before. The CSR said that no one could change the prices. To top it off, the tech showed up and asked me whether i was wifi or hardwired as he came through the door. If i was hardwired i would get the 100mps, since i was wifi, if i got 35 to 40 mps that was all i was going to get. Needless to say, I am no longer happy with Spectrum.

That's unfortunate. We have been very happy with BrightHouse / Spectrum.

If a company has live chat available, I like to use that. I can print the chat when finished. That way, I have their words in writing.

What the tech said about wifi speeds is correct, UNLESS the modem is the newest technology, and the computer has the newest technology, so basically anything above 50 meg is wasted, unless you are dragging an internet cable around.

Back home..Maine, Spectrum took over Time Warner.Raised prices 50% re organised channel the line up so my favorite channels are on higher priced tier.
Returned equipment went fire Tv. I get all the news any movies I need..I rent out my home here so I must have cable if it was just us living here I would do it here also.
I don't need hollywood or any need to watch disrespectful millionaires playing what's left of todays sports

I had Spectrum up North during the summer. At that time the minimum speed was 60 Mbps. I never really checked it because unless you are using multiple devices, lots of multiple devices you''ll never use up 60 Mbps. At 100 Mbps unless all the grandchildren are visiting at the same time, all playing an online virtual reality game, while the wife watches an HD movie on the Lanai, and I'm downloading the new version of Windows 10, all at the same time I will never even put 100 Mbps in a sweat. The truth is 15 to 25 Mbps is all you will ever need. There are so many things that effect the throughput I will not go into it here. These very high internet speeds really are only effective for a large family with lots of kids. For us retired folks even a 10 Mbps connection will work very well. Its all advertising Hype. Also now days its more cost effective to just have a good internet provider and ditch the TV side of the service. There are providers like HULU, DirectTV Now, CBS Access, etc. that provide you access to TV shows you stream from the internet and you can watch them on your time table. Monthly subscriptions to these services run between $6 to $60 per month depending on the number of channels you want access too. I've ditched the phone service also from these providers and use Magic Jack. I've had it for years and it works well. The statement about only seeing 100 Mbps with a hard wire to the router is correct. Its the point where they test the throughput. the reason is your going to loose some throughput through the router because you have to convert the data onto the WiFi signal. All takes time to accomplish the conversion. Your WiFi will never see the same speed as you can get if you connect directly to the router. If you connect a Laptop to the router via Ethernet Cable and do a speed test. You should be in the Ball Park for 100 Mbps. The speed your WiFi will be capable of supporting will depend on the WiFi speed your router is cable of supporting. You will see things like a/b/g/n under the WiFi specification on the router. These are the speeds the router supports. However there are the same letters associated with the WiFi card in your device that connects to the router. If the Router can do up to n but the device communicating with it only supports g then that's as fast as it will go. Both devices have to support that speed. The speed that the data arrives to you is also associated with the server you are communicating with at the other end. So just because things start to slow down does not mean your internet speed is slow. Sometimes its the provider of the data that is slow. As for the cost of your service what happened to the $29.99 per service that Spectrum is advertising? That's the question I would ask. My goal is to provide my TV-Internet-Phone for no more then $80 per month. So far I've been able to accomplish the goal.

To the OP: The problems you relate are not unique to Spectrum. I have CenturyLink Prism, TV and internet. A few months ago I called them to request some promotional discounts to lower my cost. The agent said she was able to reduce my cost from $200 to $146 and increased by internet speed to 50mb. I was happy. The tech came and replaced my modem which was required for the higher speed, but the new modem used 4 wires instead of 2 so I lost my phone line in that room. That also meant that I lost fax capability. Another service call was necessary to get my phone service in that room back. I also got a letter detailing my new service and it showed that my TV package had been increased to the next tier. The agent neglected to mention that. Then the bill came and it was $214! Then I found out online that there are 2 class action suits against CL in Colorado and Arizona claiming that CL agents sign up customers for unrequested services to boost their monthly quotas. I called CL again to request that they put my service back to what it was. Interestingly, the agent was adamant that she couldn't do that until I mentioned the lawsuits. Silence on the phone! Finally, my latest bill was $157. All of this took from late June/early July to my October bill. Whew!
