Default Florida Set a New Record for Covid Hospitalizations

Florida now has 11,515 people hospitalized for Covid. This is a new record. Since Florida had a total population of 21.48 million. This means one in every 1865 Floridians is now hospitalized for Covid.

Despite record COVID-19 hospitalizations, Florida'''s governor says '''admissions have slowed'''

If you are vaccinated your risk of hospitalization is very low, and your risk of death is very, very low. It is mainly younger, unvaccinated people going to the hospital and unfortunately dying. It is their choice to not be vaccinated at this time so they will suffer the consequences.

Anyone needing non-COVID hospital services are also suffering. Elective diagnostics and surgerys are delayed leading to non-COVID deaths.

Most cruel is the inability to visit loved ones in the hospital.

My two cents worth the problem is people.

First of all read the posts and see people attacking each other-just like rats on a sinking ship.

We have been dealing with covid 19 for a year and a half or perhaps two. Efforts to control. We are getting sloppy. I am getting sloppy. All diets work. The reason most fail is people start out have some success but do not, stay with it. Same is true of many things.

The vaccines. Frankly the claimed effectiveness is/was way above normal effectiveness for any vaccine.

Viruses easily mutate. The NEW variant being called delta is apparently more easily transmitted and less likely to kill.

We expect, WE DEMAND, perfection. Reality does not work that way.
As I listen to the rain outside, weren't we told that heat and rain would slow down, stop
the virus.

We have no choice. Do the best that YOU can. Discrediting others, name calling and other clearly bad taste posts-helps no one-not even yourself.

To put it in perspective if you are hospitalized with the flu you have a 7% chance of dying and about 1% with Covid.

That is pretty much meaningless unless you care to explain why they explain 600,000 dead in the last 18 months from COVID and 20,000 dead from the flu.

PLEASE not the "600,000 is a hoax" answer... sigh

They no longer know these numbers to be true due to the failed PCR testing results being what ever virus dead or alive showed up...half could have been a bad flu for all you know.

It means exactly what it says. If someone is hospitalized with the flu he is much more likely to die than from Covid. Another example is Ebola which if hospitalized has a mortality rate of 40%. Since you quoted hospitalizations I thought it would be informative to know how likely one were to die if hospitalized.

—————- mortality if hospitalized—-
Common cold. 0%
Covid Delta………1%
Influenza………….7%
Ebola…………….. 40%

We have vaccines highly effective against Covid 95%+ but influenza vaccines are only 40% to 60% effective .
Many, many more people have been infected with Covid than the flu so the total number of death is higher this year. But the flu is more deadly.

More misinformation!

To really put it "in perspective" with the facts:

The hospital admission rate for COVID varies with age----2.5% ages 18-49, up to 17.2% age over 85, average 7.3%. Of those hospitalized, 15% died, could not get a breakdown by age, but WAY above 1%.

The hospitalization rate for seasonal influenza is 9.1/100,000 population or .0091%., and about 10% of Americans get the flu each year, so 0.091% vs. 7.3%
So your chances of ending up in the hospital with "the flu" is miniscule compared to COVID

I couldn't find an accurate number for the percentage of hospitalized flu cases that die, but we know the mortality rate year to year is about 0.1% of cases. The 15% deaths of 7.3% hospitalized COVID patients come to about 1%, or 10x as deadly as flu, which is in line with other known data

So bottom line, if that was hard to follow, is that you are MUCH MORE LIKELY to die of COVID than the flu.

PS: My numbers are all from the CDC especially MMWR. And yours?????

The article doesn't say what the age group affected (teens? 30-somethings?) or if they are Florida residents and other important information. We were told at the beginning of this that the important thing was to have the elderly and those at risk for complications to get vaccinated. We've done that as evidenced by Florida's herd immunity in that age demographic. You can't protect everyone from themselves in a free society! The vaccine in there, it's available, it's FREE! Sometimes you just have to let people live (or die) with their own choices.

Anytime you would like to provide a legitimate source, I'm all ears. Oh, and btw, the general reporting category is influenza AND pneumonia deaths, which year to year generally runs about 10 x as high as influenza alone, so please present the right data
