The answer to that is that Nationally hospitalizations and DEATHS are increasing rapidly. The news is FULL of reporting from hospitals today.

Not more deadly than Delta!

Anyone paying attention might notice that the CDC and others in the US keep referring to studies from other countries. This is primarily because COVID has become so politicized in the US that testing is being reduced, and we do not have data from American sources to answer the questions being asked.

And example, recent comments here refer to information from the CDC showing viral load is much higher in DELTA in both vaccinated and unvaccinated. This brought comments from deniers and anti Vax’ers saying, “see we told you so.”

Well, recent study from Singapore confirms initial viral load is similar between jabbed and unjabbed but then as the disease progresses the patients that have been vaccinated show declining load vs those not vaccinated showing increasing load.

Would be nice is we were testing Americans so we could know if the Singapore results apply here…

But here we reduce testing, because COVID is just seeing a seasonal surge, no big deal… right

(the correct answer to that challenge question is: because some day one of those kids will become YOUR president. You have a choice NOW in ensuring that that kid gets the best education your tax dollars can buy.)

One has nothing to do with other.

That sounds like one short step to eugenics.

Hospitalizations and Death rates are increasing in both Florida and the US. It is all over the news!

What makes Florida look like the worst state is the fact that it is the worst state. If we required proof of vaccines from every tourist and every resident we would beat the virus and get on with our lives.

Great post. Thanks for making it personal. Your advice means so MUCH more. Surviving the Delta variant IS more difficult and involves younger and younger people. No one IS invulnerable. Thank you for helping others to see the light of reality!!!!!! I hope your grandson lives a long and strong life.

Wow, that was a long leap, pretty sure that word doesn't mean what you apparently think it means.

That is dreadful. So sorry to hear this. I would think at this point in time there is treatment to prevent this from happening.

As an aside, not to minimize the devastating effects this young person is dealing with but.......Covid also causes blood clots and has also been the cause of amputations of limbs of the victims of the disease.

A UK study of over 50,000 patients show that the case death rate of the delta variant is 1/10th that of the alpha. It may be more infectious but it is far less deadly.

The US CDC says that Delta IS LIKELY more deadly. And this is being proven as we speak in Florida and the US as DEATHS go up this week. Also, more young people get Delta than the prior variants. Also, Florida hospitals are making NEW CV wards and some want to make new wards, but do NOT have the room. That business about less deadly is OLD news in the US.

The UK has some differences in comparison to the US - they have Universal Health Care, like all REAL conscientious countries do! They have vaccinations at a 90% rate - one of the world's highest - and better than all US states (Vermont may be close). The UK's attitude toward government is positive. The US attitude toward government echoes one overrated former President that said, "the government is the problem, not the solution" - and many wild west, cowboy-loving, frontier-mentality want-to-be's ate that garbage up. (even today) The UK tries to reach out to allies. The US (protected somewhat by large oceans) still has a "go it alone" mentality. With a 90% vaccine rate, the UK may have made it to the "holy grail" of "herd immunity". The US may fall short of that as it leads the world in CV problems!

Default Stop the fear mongering

Deaths and hospitalizations Are very low which is what really matters but is seldom mentioned. The flu kills more than twenty thousand a year and as many as 80k in some years.Cases may be increasing but you don’t stop living because people are getting a bit sick.We live with risks all the time.If you are fully vaccinated you should have no restrictions. Don’t listen to all the fear mongering.

Kids already have plenty to make fun of each other about - some kids can be incredibly cruel, on a good day. Now you're pitting the masked and the unmasked against each other?

This is a recipe for disaster.
You are wrong! I’m an elementary school teacher. Unlike the adults on this blog, elementary students are very much able to find empathy. First and foremost they are intelligent to understand mask choice is really parents so they don’t degrade each other over it. Teachers don’t allow bullying but teach respect for all perspectives which they don’t lose until adults mess with them. They just want friends, recess, lunch, and a little FUN learning in between.

Now from the teacher. Teaching elementary students with masks is ridiculous. They need to LEARN facial cues and how to LEARN to get along and work with everyone from all backgrounds. They learn the ways they are ALIKE as they make friendships. They can’t do this three feet apart or over internet or even with masks up. They can’t communicate as well either with hearing or speaking because they are DEVELOPING these skills.

For all of you that will post they are spreaders to families not true at our school (very diverse families). Kids were quarantined with parents who got it from their work and after 20 days kids never got it. The few kids I know that got it from daycares were all well in three days. Look FACTS from CDC for kids 2018 and 2009 and 2020. You will see no reason for closing schools. Let kids be kids and quit ruining this generation.
