Where in the world do you get your "facts?"

Hospitalizations are high and climbing! Deaths always lag cases and are now beginning to climb. Yes, they are low and hopefully will stay that way but it's too soon to tell.

The flu facts are correct, it kills more than 20K in a normal year. What we also know is Covid has so far gotten over 35M people "a bit sick" and more than 613K of them have died.

I agree with the statement about the vaccinated. For those that are unvaccinated - they should worry!

Teachers don’t allow bullying but teach respect for all perspectives which they don’t lose until adults mess with them. They just want friends, recess, lunch, and a little FUN learning in between.

Now from the teacher. Teaching elementary students with masks is ridiculous. They need to LEARN facial cues and how to LEARN to get along and work with everyone from all backgrounds. They learn the ways they are ALIKE as they make friendships. They can’t do this three feet apart or over internet or even with masks up. They can’t communicate as well either with hearing or speaking because they are DEVELOPING these skills.

For all of you that will post they are spreaders to families not true at our school (very diverse families). Kids were quarantined with parents who got it from their work and after 20 days kids never got it. The few kids I know that got it from daycares were all well in three days. Look FACTS from CDC for kids 2018 and 2009 and 2020. You will see no reason for closing schools. Let kids be kids and quit ruining this generation.
Thanks for an informative post! But, I, personally, feel that it will be a DISASTER to send kids of ALL ages back to school. Of course, you are correct about facial expressions and speaking and hearing with a mask. Japan has its elementary schools set up with plexiglass between the desks, a big difference from what your students are doing. I lean toward Japan being correct.

The world of CV has changed with the more dangerous and contagious DELTA variant. A whole different world. Kids will have very poor facial expressions if DELTA gets hold of them because of greater hospitalizations, deaths, and long-haul symptoms like neurological symptoms. I hope you have added Delta into all of your risk calculations? And I hope all your peer teachers are themselves vaccinated. Good luck!

So not only are you sticking a bunch of unvaccinated kids into a closed air-controlled environment, you're also telling them that they don't have to wear masks.

Kids already have plenty to make fun of each other about - some kids can be incredibly cruel, on a good day. Now you're pitting the masked and the unmasked against each other?[

This is a recipe for disaster.

Learned from the Grandpas and Grandmas on this site!

Personal preference is an American choice that we’re privileged to have, not like a communist country that our govt. is sucking up to. But it just sounds like to me that is one time we should do what we’re asked to to do if we want this Covid thing to go away! But our biggest problem is the illegals coming in aren’t being checked or vaccinated!

The Florida Hospital Association is projecting that there will be twice as many cases of COVID by Labor Day as the highest number experienced in the U.S. at the peak rate last January. A difference is that the new variant is attacking much younger people with far worse, even fatal results. 96% of current new patients are unvaccinated.
When all gets said and done, no matter how it is sliced or diced....the unvaccinated pandemic is the reality.
Like it or not!

Rather than start a new thread, I will try to slightly change the subject because we are heading down the primrose path again and this thread will be closed soon...

Do any of you know personally anyone here in The Villages who has caught Covid after having both shots? I do. I know one person and he knows two more from the rec center group where he caught it. He did not get very sick, thank goodness.

Sorry, my bad.

I do not know anyone personally, but my brother does, they, the ones vaccinated that caught COVID, are both doctors.

Why are "head-scratchers" removed? Just asking in case I might make the mistake of writing a "head-scratcher." I do not know the definition of head-scratcher. Thank you.

Hi Gracie,

I remember February, 2020, as the time when we were all just finding out what we could be in for. I think February of 2020 was the first of many of those “going away” statements. That one was something about the heat coming in to take it out in April.

A quick Google will find many such empty declarations. I guess you must have missed them.

I find the fact that it has been so easy for so many to accept the rewriting of reality to be damn scary. With the vaccine, we now have a way to fight the virus — but dysinformation just keeps on spreading — and winning. (shudder)

And even with the showing of sham claims, etc., so many stubbornly cling to fantasy versus reality
