Dixie originally referred to $10 bank notes issued by a New Orleans bank. The word Dix was on the back, that being the French word for “ten”. The bank was solvent and strong, and its notes were popular for trade. The area where these circulated, in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama, and western Florida was referred to as Dixieland, and the term took on meanings derived from the Francophone culture and music of the region. In 1760, a border dispute among British colonies was settled by a line drawn by a surveyor named Dixon, as the Mason Dixon line. Later this demarcated the slave states to the south from the non-slave states to the north. Then came the Civil War, and the marching song “Dixie” popular among Confederate soldiers. In the backlash against post-war Reconstruction the Lost Cause myth evolved and cooped Dixie as referring to the Confederacy, not just the Francophone counties of coastal Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, once known as Dixieland.

And then, of course, we have the Mason-Dixon line, which surveyors Mason and Dixon drew to settle border disputes among Pa., Md. and Va. Everything south of Md. became shorthanded as Dixie. This naming nonsense reminds me of the old joke about Melvin Lipschitz. He was told his name was bad and he must change it. He did. To Herman. Point being, what differences does it make? |

Looks like this country is teaching kids that all they have to do is have a tantrum in order to get what they want.
FYI: "Anthony Johnson was a black Angolan known for achieving wealth in the early 17th-century Colony of Virginia. He was one of the first African American property owners and had his right to legally own a slave recognized by the Virginia courts." Some believe that Johnson was the FIRST legal slave owner in America, and Snopes (if you can believe them) says that is "possibly true." Time for some folks to take responsibility for themselves and quit worrying about what the dead did in the past. Erasing history is not going to change the dirty facts. America is still the best in the world, so we need to accept our past and be proud of what we have accomplished and are still working on for improvement. Looking at other countries as examples is looking backward, not forward. Americans improve the world, not copy it.

But its ok when blacks call each other the N word. How about all those rap songs that have that word in it.
I'm sorry, but we have come a long way from 250 years ago. Even the 1960's . Not all is perfect, but there are many well educated black people who took advantage of what this country is offering. Doctors, lawyers entertainers, entrepreneurs, politicians, etc. Unfortunately for many, it's a vicious cycle that they just can't come out of. I'm sure for most people, it's not the color of ones skin, but the way a person is in society. Color of ones skin should never define who that person is. ALL LIVES MATTER!!! |

Cancel culture reminds me:
There was an effort to cancel the animal cartoon character in the children’s show “Paw Patrol”. The character is Chase who is a fictional German Shepherd pup depicted as a young police officer who helps people. Why cancel Chase? Because he depicts police in too positive a light.
