ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!!!

V'07, I think sometimes my whole life is passing before my eyes on You Tube.

Hey, maybe Judy will make a video for us.

And won't she be surprised when she logs on later and sees what is planned for her shopping trip finale. My dress will pale in comparison.

Hey Chels,

Advertising is so much fun to hear about from an insider. Thank you.

Was there ever one where Joey would slink around on the mattress itself or would that have been not allowed at the time?

And re. the history of advertising, do you know anything about some magazine ads for Springmaid sheets I think it was. They are from before you were working in advertising I bet. I have only heard about them but supposedly they were quite steamy for their day. The theme was around an Indian Princess type. One of the ads supposedly featured her lovah lying across the bed and the caption was, "A buck well spent on my Springmaid sheets." And there were others equally risque for their time supposedly. Now they would just be considered un-pc.

OK, Chels, am I making that one up? I cannot even remember where I heard it but it was years ago. And Chels, you look way too young to have been at it in 1960, but I sure hope you are watching "Mad Men." I would think you would love it.

And I have to get out of here bc I could talk about advertising all day. It has always fascinated me.

So Chels, maybe you and uu can make a comeback mattress commercial. Wouldn't that be great! I love TOTV. Too much fun though and I look in way too often.

Well, I must be off, Mr. Boomer is ready to leave. (The house not me. At least I don't think so. I guess I had better get off this :edit: computer and go find out.)

Boomer

Hahaha Boomer, no I wasn't in it in the 60's! Mid Seventies and on. But we still had to slice and dice old Joey Heatherton stuff. She did actually lay across the mattress in her last two commercials. Also, do you remember her in her faux "Marilyn Monore" dress?

I think I did hear something about the Springmaid sheets. But the big drama was Marilyn Chambers (Porn star) on the Ivory Snow Box. One of the writer's had that proudly displayed in his office.

Here's the link for Springmaid. http://www.snopes.com/business/market/springmaid.asp

Also, you might be interested that one of my commercials is still running, but much watered down. It's for Fancy Feast. The white Persian cat with the butler. The white Persian was originally written to go up against Morris the Cat and 9 Lives. When I wrote her, she had a Mae West voice, said very funny things. She lived with a bachelor and yes, had a butler. Also had one commercial where she had her own Luise Vitton luggage.

Well the outcome was that it never aired that way because even though it blew Morris out of the water during testing, in focus groups some women though the "cat" yes, the CAT was too sexy! One woman even said and I quote "I wouldn't like my husband watching that cat."

So, poor Mae was watered down over the years. Just thought you might be interested. Yes, I miss advertising. It's a wonderfully creative (crazy) environment.

I have not seen Mad Men yet. Thanks for the tip. I will have to take a look.

Hey Boomer,

Ask and ye shall receive (isn't this Internet thang just wonderful)...

http://www.foundmedia.org/wb_8.html

Geez, I can't even remember the commercial that played on TV 10 minutes ago. Where do you get this stuff? Looks like these ads were from the 1940s...well before Boomer years.

Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh! "Surprised" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel right now! 1rnfl Boomer, you're as baaaaad as GracieGirl! You're ALL baaad!

#1: GG, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't look anything like her. Nope.
#2: My disks hurt just from watching the video. NO WAY can I move like that anymore.
#3: If we did (and I stress IF) make a mattress video I'm afraid it would make YouTube history. "Hey, come look at this chubby old babe wallowing around on a mattress in a Nordstrom dress!"
Yes, V07, this Internet thang is wonderful -- and terrifying, too!
But I love hearing Chelsea's advertising stories. Keep 'em coming!

Chels. Just a couple of days ago, I gave up on Rhonda, 'cause she can do just everything perfectly, and I am certainly not in her league. Now you are sailing way over my head too. I would be shy around you and could never hang out with anyone so talented.

sigh.

V'07 and Chels,

Thanks for the links. I do not know why I know about, "A buck well spent on a Springmaid sheet." But imagine the scandal of it in the 1940's. I have been known to look through old magazines in antique stores trying to find the ad. Now that I know the year, maybe I can.

And Chels, that's great about your commercial still running. Sex sells cat food even. Poor Mae. Stifled.

Judy, it's a great idea. I knew you would laugh though when you saw the plan. But, aw, c'mon.

Ronda, I think you would really like the dress. It's comfortable and it does not wrinkle much at all which I somehow thought it would. You would look great.

Chels, I hope you will tell us about what other ads you worked on. You could probably write a book I'll bet. I still have a copy of "The Hidden Persuaders." Now days though, there is not too much "hidden" about it with some of the ads.

Boomer
