This is a senior citizen golf cart community. If it was a golf community 90% would be walking, playing all the rules [not just the ones you know], not plucking the ball out of the hole with a suction cup and doing it all on a regulation size course.

Hardly anyone cares about what they shoot or improving. I don't care enough. If I cared I would be going to the free practice greens and bunkers at Sarasota. I've talked to many who have taken lessons but don't practice. I'm a retired golf coach. I just want to play and meet others. I won't play alone. I've met thousands of happy people this way and only 2 grouches.

I thought I'd love to play full size courses that cost a fraction of what our's cost. For the last 3 weeks I played Continental, the Lakes of Lady Lake and the preserve course that's 45 minutes away not the closer one. Even if it was free I don't know if I'd go back. What a privilege it is to play "Almost Golf" for free on beautiful executive courses surrounded by beautifully landscaped homes. I truly feel entitled down here. I don't know anyone outside of the villages that has it as good as me.

Most of these kinds of arguments could be avoided if the "glass half empty" or "footprints in the sand" types would count their blessings and all their strokes.

You know it doesn't seem to be as big as a problem as slow play. I bet every other time that I play golf & I don't play golf as much as a lot of people do but it seems like so many people will have a foresome & they'll be a twosome or 3 people & sometimes a faster 4some & these slow 4some will have 2 holes backed up & I understand the Ambassadors can't force the slower players to let the faster players play through. Or you'll have first time players playing from the BLACK TEES & they can't hit the ball to the GREEN TEES. Just a week ago 4 players were playing & 2 of them couldn't hit the ball 100 ft. They would ride their carts straight across from their ball, get off their carts, walk to the ball, look at the green & then walk back to their cart & get a club.. With all of the the golf courses & players that are playing now you would think our Rec. board committee would have harsher rules or let the ambassador speed things up. It's nice that The Villages want to make a big impression on possibly new people coming in but come on, these people wouldn't get away with this kind of play anywhere else in the country! Sorry to downplay the sand bottle thing, but I just really think golf courses have got bigger issues than sand bottles!

OMG, I did the same thing. I also thought the bag rack thing was for children to stand up. When they told me that box thing was a ball washer I told the guy I had no use for it because I don't date much anymore.

Golf in TV sounds so aggravating. Too bad they can't restrict play on one course for those that really know and play the game well.

Not being sarcastic here, just a question. I am new to Golf. Brand New. While I am starting lessons, after reading these comments, do they teach the basic etiquettes of golf? Have not been on a course yet, but until reading here, I had no idea what is expected of me, regarding carrying sand, raking bunkers, ect. I am glad I have read this so I do not embarass myself when I do eventually step into the breach

Being as you are a beginner, I would hope that your instructor would cover the basics of golf etiquette. If not, just be sure to ask. It really only takes a few minutes.

First of all it's pretty hard to embarrass yourself down here. We're all in the same boat and you will not find a more understanding group than senior golfers. The only way the game could be more humiliating is if you have to play it in a bathing suit.

I play with a couple of guys regularly. We got paired up with a couple of woman and before we even started one woman said "First of all I'd like to apologize for my game. I am not very good at it and hope you don't laugh." I said, "Wait till you see Jim play, you'll be laughing for the next nine holes." I was only joking but they knew our priorities were to have a good time. That's the way it is with 99% of the people you I run into.

Having said all that it would help out quite a bit if you were prepared. Take a look at this video:

We have a different kind of grass that you don't fix by replacing the divot. You fix it by pouring on some soil and seed mix right over the divot.

I can't see any need for Ambassadors if they are not allowed to ask people to speed up play after they take 8 or 9 shots on a par 3, also hitting 3 and 4 balls off the tee. 😡😡

TV has a special class for you and everyone else who moves here and wants to play golf. It's called "Good Golf School", it given once a month at Colony Cottage Rec Center usually on a Thursday morning. It starts at 9am and lasts until about 11:30. Look in the Sun newspaper sports section and usually on page 2 there is a colored vertical column of various Villages sports news. Look for the heading Good Golf School, and call and reserve your spot.

I started playing golf in 1962 when I was 12 and I took the class when I moved here in 2011. I really didn't learn anything new about golf, but at the time I didn't understand the 'wave' system and wave times listed in the newspaper or how to make teetimes. They will go into the teetime system almost a little too much, but basically forget about the free telephone version they discuss and just sign up for the computer system and pay the $8 a month it costs.

The wave system pertains to the fact we have nine golf courses that are 27 holes. You do know that golf is only 18 holes in a round. To get the most use out of our courses, there is a starter shack at every nine and all three nines have identical teetimes. So when you've finished your front nine and want to go to your back nine, it would be impossible if golfers are still teeting off starting their round. So the waves mean, there is no teetimes during those periods of time so that other golfers can cross over and start their back nine. I probably confused you, and honestly you'll be best off just playing the executive courses for the first year anyway. They are free and they are all just nine holes. That's the one thing good about TV, the execs are a great place for new golfers to improve their skills.

And isn't sand what started this thread. That's the solution - fill the sand bottles (with the free sand) and fill the divots; it's a simple concept even the elitists and entitled should understand.
