You are right,when queen palms are very close to the home, the roaches nest exactly where the branches meet the trunk,roaches then crawl up the branches,onto the roof,under the shingles, and eventually find there way into your home.
I had that problem,removed palm trees,roach problem gone, about 2 months later after roaches under shingles finally died.

I am aware that the frost did alot of damage and you have to get rid of the old limbs so the new can come in.

This issue of the skirted palms has been discussed on here before. I think what you may find out is that it is a type of palm where the dead fronds are left on the tree and form a natural skirt. I think they look rather nice, or least different.
It really isn't necessary to trim dead fronds to have new ones come in.....the new ones come in at the top of the tree.

When Erik Knudsen, head of landscaping for TV, gave a presentation on palms, he said that it is too expensive to cut the fronds off every palm. They just do the ones around the squares and I think the country clubs or rec centers. Also, as said above, certain ones are meant to have the skirts as they are called, I believe, "skirted ladies."

TV by policy does not trim palm trees...too much maintenance!!

I have had the pleasure of being inside the family compound a few times. They have a ton of beautiful trees, both old oaks and palms with a ton of shade. These trees have constant maintenance.
Just look out behind the polo fields and you can see beautiful trees. The oaks are cleaned of most of their moss and grow so big, round and beautiful with tons of branches. The palms around the homes are picture perfect like in a movie.
My point being I wish they would clean up the palms along the roads.

I love the beautiful palm trees. Some may have drawbacks like the Pindos with the fruit that falls all over the ground and attracts wasps and bees, the bearded ones that look disheveled, and Queens that attract palmetto bugs (a nicer way to say roaches). But every time I take a ride and see the palms I am thankful to be here in TV and not up north where it is cold, snowy, and icy in the winter.
