Default Listen to your body to be healthy

Yes, I agree with that to a certain extent. For example, stop eating when you're full.

The problem is that it doesn't work for most people because most diseases are silent until a lot of damage has been done or death occurs.

Here's a partial list:

Alzheimer's

Vascular dementia

Cancer

Heart disease

Diverticulosis

Diabetes

Osteoporosis

High blood pressure

A serious discussion is welcomed.

If I am already eating healthy, my body asks for healthy food. For me what messes up the signals is sugar and simple carbs. What I called "The Cinnabon Diet" in a previous thread. If there is a lot of sugar in my diet, I crave it. When I severely limit the sugar, both real and artificial, I do not.

I know what you mean. I went to a lecture at Freedom Point this week and ate some of their snacks. I felt fine while eating them but later in the day I felt less well than usual. They were supposed to be healthy snacks according to their standards but they were too processed and sweet for me.

However, instead of making me crave more processed (sweetened) foods, I couldn't wait to get back to my normal healthy foods.

In my opinion, I think it's best to focus on lifestyle because it's our best chance to have an impact for the better.

GG: You pose a question which I viewed as being rhetorically in nature.

Only if it were that simple

This diet/eating right thing has gotten out of hand.

The body needs to be nourished and eating good nutritious food in moderation makes sense to me. I've eaten on that premise for many years and I am still active, exercise and I doubt if I made any drastic changes this late in life on my eating habits that it would alter my longevity.

Simply not correct, for example plaque in the arteries can be reduced or eliminated in 6-12 months on a plant based diet.

at the same time reducing BP.

Along with weight loss (automatically)

Think that may change your longevity?

Thanks, I think you're correct to answer "yes" because not everyone who has a gene associated with a certain disease gets the disease. It's only an association. There's no proof that genes alone cause any of the diseases I mentioned.

It's strange to think that a gene for some disease sits in one's body for 50, 60 or more years waiting to give you some particular disease, like a time release capsule waiting to go off. Suddenly, the gene looks at its blueprint for disease and thinks, "Okay, 60 years has gone by, I think it's time for this disease - ready, get set, go!!!!!!"

Another question....when does an interest in something cross over into the realm of obsession and an unhealthy preoccupation? Perhaps by the 500th post on the same subject.

I get to blame my renal, cardiac, colon, and blood pressure from my mothers side not anything to do with my diet
