I have to agree. McCall's fried chicken is the next best thing to the broasted chicken I've had growing up in southeastern Ohio.

My little hometown had two restaurants that served broasted chicken as well as broasted potatoes. It was great because they truly fought for the business. Best chicken I have ever eaten. Crisp, moist and volcanic hot!

I was wondering why everyone was saying they got it at this resto or that, so DH looked up. It's cooked in a pressureized fryer, the likes of which are not for sale to homeowners. And no wonder! Boiling oil under pressure? In our house, that would be a recipe for disaster.

We both remember getting in Pittsburgh, but I couldn't tell you where.

Broasted chicken was advertised at many restaurants throughout the Midwest before KFC became ubiquitous. Still see it occasionally, had some at a bar and grill this summer in a small Minnesota town. It is pretty hard to beat.

I remember broasted chicken when I lived in Minneapolis. Very good.

I think that one of the country clubs here could buy the equipment needed for broasting, keep the oil fresh and clean, and really get a lot of business - since there are so many mid-westerners here who remember it well.

We were just talking about broasted chicken last night. Had some friends go to Eaton's Beach on Lake Weir and they have it. Broasted chicken is the best, broasted pork chops too!

Maryland Fried Chicken franchises do indeed pressure cook (broast) their fried chicken. It is quite good. They are also unique in that they fry their chicken in peanut oil.

However, they do not use the same breading (spices, etc.) as that used in the Broasted brand name. I still hope to find that.

Doesn't Kentucky Fried Chicken use the pressure cooking in oil for their signature "original" chicken?

I remember an old cartoon in a magazine showing Col. Sanders being hauled away by Drug Enforcement Agents. They were saying to him, "Well, we figured out what your 11 secret herbs are!"

I like KFC original chicken, Popeye's (greasy but good!), and the best of all fried chicken was my mother's fried chicken (naturally).

Kenny Rogers chicken was spit roasted over a wood fire - and was excellent!

I love good fried chicken but love, love, love, broasted chicken.

We used to get it all the time when I was a kid out west but I haven't had any really good broasted chicken for quite awhile.

Like other posters have said, I would think a restaurant in TV that had good broasted chicken as a menu item would sell a lot of it.

Yes, original recipe KFC is pressure cooked, but it seems to me to be much greasier than Broasted brand chicken.

The last time I ate KFC, a few months ago, I had a very upset stomach from all the grease --- but the herbs and spices still tasted good. I tend to keep the Alka-Seltzer people in business these days.
