Default Slow golf carts

---

And while all that would appear to be true and make sense, statistically, according to multiple law enforcement and insurance industry sites, it is the SLOW drivers that cause more accidents than so-called speeders.

You’re correct, MMPS are a different beast, although those slugging along at 10 mph cause plenty of problems as well

Statistics say one slow moving vehicle causes more accidents than one fast moving vehicle.
That slow cart blocks up many other carts. They all want to get past and perform risky passes. If you are the slow cart, do not hinder anyone else - you are the problem.

Drive down 466 sometime behind someone who isn't capable of driving more than 35mph in a 45 mph zone. As people have to shoot the gap to get around the LAWBREAKER, it creates dangerous situations for MULTIPLE vehicles.
If you are driving in the left lane and there is a line of cars behind you and nothing in front of you, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

And there's the explanation. Further information is available online.

When they fly past you they are idiots, when they go too slow they are morons. Watch out for the white Mercedes convertible!!!

If a golf cart is driving at 20 mph following the speed limit, those behind who wish to go faster ARE THE PROBLEM. They will take unecessary risks simply because they have no patience.

"If a golf cart is driving at 20 mph" it is not a slow cart and therefore not the problem we are discussing. The issue is the problems caused by carts going 10,12,14 ish

The problem of traffic accidents, be the traffic composed of golf carts, cars, or whatever, is not so much speed per se as speed DIFFERENTIAL. And there are numerous studies online available at the click of a mouse that will bear that out.

This is not rocket science. Clem Kadiddlehopper tooling along in his '64 Dodge half-ton at 41 miles an hour on a freeway where the speed MINIMUM is 40 is technically not breaking the law, but that wide speed differential between ol' Clem and his sedate 41 MPH and the other vehicles that drive on average 5 to 10 MPH OVER the limit means that there could be a differential between Clem's '64 Dodge half-ton of as much as 40 MPH, possibly more. That is 60 + feet per second. "It takes the average person about 1.5 seconds to perceive, process, and react to an unexpected traffic emergency, (and) this includes roughly 0.75 seconds to see and recognize the hazard, and another 0.75 seconds to physically move your foot to the brake pedal". That is average. How many react slower? A lot...if accident statistics are any indicator.

Works the other way as well. Some clown zipping along at 90 MPH and weaving in and out of traffic causes the same type of situations as ol' Clem, only worse, damage-wise, because an accident caused by excess speed is far more likely to result in collateral damage than one caused because one party was going slower than the rest of the traffic were able to react.

So...it is both. Excess speed and excess dawdling. Works for golf carts too...the speeds may be closer, vehicle-to-vehicle, but the dynamics are the same. But the variable is choice. If you choose to do something dangerous because the guy ahead of you is going (in your opinion) too slow and an accident results, you're going to be found liable. And you'll deserve it.

Nobody should choose to do anything dangerous on the roads or MMPs, EVER. That being said, anything under 17 is TOO SLOW, period. It's not an opinion, it's a fact that person is driving 15% under the speed limit. That's the same as driving 59 on an interstate posted at 70. I picked 17 arbitrarily, some people will tolerate 15, others think 19 is too slow. But no sane person thinks 10 is OK.

Differential speed is important, but it all comes down to driving skills. If you can't drive 70, stay off the interstates, or at least stay in the far-right lane at 60. Anything less, stick to secondary roads. If you tool down BV at 25, stay home. If you can't drive your cart on the MMP at least 17, walk.
