Default One pound of Hamburger.

Is defrosted for tonight's dinner. I am tired of the usual spaghetti and hamburgers on buns. Don't want to fix the special of the mid west, Johnny Marzetti.

Please give me a recipe that is one of your go to ones that people seem to enjoy. Something from YOUR neck of the woods.

Recipe: Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Prep time: 15 min |Cook time: 30 min | Yield: About 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients:
• 1-1/2 pounds of ground beef
• 1/2 cup of Italian style dry bread crumbs
• 1 large egg, beaten
• 1/4 cup of minced onion
• Couple dashes of Worcestershire sauce
• 2 cans of condensed cream of mushroom soup, divided
• Cajun seasoning (like Slap Ya Mama),or seasoning salt (like Lawry's), to taste
• 2 tablespoons of bacon fat, canola or vegetable oil
• Couple dashes of Kitchen Bouquet, for color, optional
• 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
Directions:

Mix together the ground beef, bread crumbs, beaten egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce and 1/4 cup of the soup. Shape into 6 oval shaped patties, and sprinkle both sides of the patties with Cajun seasoning or seasoned salt. Heat the fat in a 12 inch skillet over medium high heat, add the patties in two batches, and brown on both sides, turning carefully. Use a wide spatula to transfer the patties to a platter; set aside. Drain off excess fat from the skillet.

Add the remaining soup to the skillet and bring to a boil; reduce heat, stir in Kitchen Bouquet and the mushrooms, cover and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, or until mushrooms release their liquid. Return the patties to the skillet, carefully turning to coat both sides, cover and cook over medium low, turning several times, for about 30 minutes or until patties are no longer pink. Serve patties with some of the gravy and mushrooms spooned over the top.

Cook's Notes: If you are using a higher fat ground beef, increase the dry breads crumbs slightly. For extra gravy use a large family size can of cream of mushroom and stir in a bit of water or milk to loosen, bring to a boil, add mushrooms and proceed with remaining recipe. May also substitute a 6-ounce can of mushrooms with the liquid for the fresh mushrooms.

We do walking tacos quite often. Quick, easy, tasty. Serving suggestion: icy, ice cold Negro Modelos.

Hamburger defrosting, on Father's Day?? Close to a mortal sin.

Let it defrost for Monday. Go to Publix or Fresh Market and get a couple of filets and fire up the grill with some cocktails.

It's still early enough to get that done!!

Agree!! My wife is making fried chicken, real French fries and onion rings. Smells like heaven in the house.

It sounds delish. I have never heard of a Cajun seasoning called "Slap ya mama". Sounds...ummm...spicy?

Please forgive me, I thought you were kiddin' me. But you weren't...http://slapyamama.com/

Default I've saved this recipe from an old German neighbor of mine

I've saved this recipe from an old German neighbor of mine; the one who made the best warm German potato salad........

It's not something I would serve on Father's Day, however, great for when the grandkids visit........or for an anytime "lunch" or Saturday quick supper.....

It was called "Tailgating" something or other.......but is actually just:

ITALIAN SLOPPY JOES WITH CHEESE IN HOT DOG BUNS

1 lb ground beef

8 oz. "pizza sauce" (found near jarred spaghetti sauces)

1 tablespoon minced fresh onion

1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed

1/4 teaspoon dried basil, crushed

6 hot dog buns

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Brown ground beef in skillet over medium-high heat, and drain grease.

Add pizza sauce and spices to meat. Bring to boil, stirring, then turn to low, cover and cook 15 minutes.

Spoon the meat mixture onto hot dog bun bottoms. (I use the Kings Hawaiian Hot Dog rolls)....ditto for their H.B. buns.

Top with mozzarella cheese which should melt on the hot meat and cover with bun tops.

The guys love these. Above recipe makes 6, but you can double or triple the recipe.

Default I think what they might have meant was

I see nothing wrong with a pound of hamburger on Father's day. Anyone who knows me knows I love to cook, am a fairly good cook and my husband was happy with his supper. I don't think of fathers day or mothers day as a great feast day, kill the fatted calf time like Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, New Years. Yummy doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive.

We like ground beef. What's your beef?

Gracie......I'm sure your supper came out yummy, but I think what that poster meant was that perhaps some others prepare something "special"; like for instance, whatever the "father of the day" would like for his special celebratory meal. Similar to us moms being taken out to Sunday brunch for Mother's Day or getting flowers, etc. Doing something special for dad.

Most dads love surf and turf.....steak and shrimp on the grill, a nice baked potato and a salad..........nothing at all like a Thanksgiving dinner extravaganza..........plus a nice dessert.

But try that "tailgate" recipe I shared with you, the next time you have a lb. of ground beef thawing. You will like it, for sure.

I use a 9 3/4 x 9 3/4 square casserole dish.

any where from a pound to a pound and a half of hamburg

onions to taste - your preference

a 16 oz can of creamed corn

about a cup of shredded cheese

instant mashed potatoes serving for 4

this is a very flexible dish - you could add other vegetables (peas?) and more seasonings - we have used Mrs. Dash sometimes
