I purchased a new home less than one yr ago and recently have experience intermittent alarms from my smoke detectors. This does not appear to be a battery replacement issue. Wondering who else may have experienced similar issues with there new smoke detectors?

Since you have had the home less than one year, the issue is most likely faulty smoke detectors. Call the warranty department quickly and you can get new ones installed.

Some smoke detectors have been know to respond to other things, like heavy perfume, cooking (no smoke showing), etc., so were these random, or was there something else going on? I agree, with previous comments, 1 replace the batteries, and if you get another alarm, contact home warranty and have ALL of them replaced.

Try call the Fire Company, non-emergency # (352) 569-1011. Have 9v batteries ready for ALL smoke detectors in the house in case they want to change them, which I would think they would want to do. You will also need a ladder for them to use. This is a free service they provide for homeowners. Also, just because you moved in a year ago and it was a new home, how long did it sit empty before you purchased it? I see smoke detectors start chirping every year. Best to replace batteries once a year.

Should'nt they be hard wired as it is new construction?
Maybe they are affected by dust or some other substance

Short while after I moved into new home 16 yrs ago was woken in night with alarm chirruping. I was alone as my husband was in UK. Had to get ladders & change battery,--- back to bed & a few minutes later chirruping started again. Tried again with another battery but noise still continued, driving me mad!
Next night same thing! Had not gone off during day though. Decided to track the noise carefully: turns out to be a cricket in the wall behind the mirror in the bathroom.
Sticky trap under corner of cabinet where there was a gap solved the problem. 1 cricket in bin , peaceful sleep resumed.

The alarms installed by The Villages have the following life expectancy.
Carbon dioxcide 5 year smoke alarms 8 years.

the original alarms or whatever reason caused some difficulty when replacing the batteries.

I have for safety reason replaced all my alarms twice. I just replaced the batteries in all my alarms yesterday and to my delight the batteries slide in easily . don't forget to replace the 9v battery in your irrigation control box also.

if you are getting a continual chirping its either a bad battery or alarm. Perhaps the chirping coming from some other source such as a cell phone that hasn't been charged

i had the same issue and replaced batteries on one or two that i thought were the issues but I ended up having to change all of them in every room and it solved the problem so one must have been bad. good luck it drove me nuts for a few days

The fire/smoke alarms are AC powered (hardwired) with battery backup (9v), and further, they have an additional wired that causes ALL of the alarms to sound off if ANY alarm is triggered.

Home warranty sent out the original electrical contractor that built the house and they found two defective smoke detectors. All batteries were good, they just replaced the faulty units and I'm happy to report.... Problem Solved !

The lesson learned is to have something as critical as a smoke detector issue professionally resolved, rather than waiting for TOTV experts to try and diagnose the problem.

Remember when you change the battery, write the date on the battery .
Batterys are cheap at the dollar store. Change once a year.
