While my father-in-law loves to call me the birdman, I know very little about birds. As my wife got very little sleep last night worrying about a Sandhill crane in our yard with a bad leg and as the bird had not moved an inch since last night, I called the District information center this morning to ask who to call. They directed me to call a wildlife center. The operator at the center stated that a call had been placed last night by a neighbor about this bird. In the meantime, someone placed a water bucket near the bird in our yard.
We are still waiting for the birdman/rescue person to arrive. |

You probably never had to wait this long up north, right?

I was not trying to be critical only stating the facts. Unfortunately up North we have Turkey vultures in the yard which are ugly and I would like to see pass on.

The bird left sometime yesterday afternoon while we were away. Today, a very nice lady from the Humane Society stopped by to check on the situation and apologize for the slow response. She was very knowledgeable and told stories of some of her adventures with all types of animals. This particular bird has been reported several times in the past in this same area.
Many years ago before becoming familiar with deer habits, a fawn was born in our back yard. For a time, we thought that the mother had abandoned it or was possible killed. We now know that deer moms return after a time and don’t abandon their babies. Live and learn. |
