Seriously, I'm not trying to bait a fight.
This question came up on another thread and I didn't want to hi-jack the thread. I've read on this forum that GW blew it by abandoning the conservative agenda that got him nominated and elected. How, and when? |

i.e., Medicare Drug program, 1st TARP. Also, not taking the opportunity while he had a majority to press Barney Frank and Chris Dodd on Fanny and Freddie.

I gotta agree, so far, with all of that. That is, I agree with the posts, not the Presidential programs.

![]() ![]() I believe that he failed by trying to be all things to all people. The country was in a recession when he took office and the collapse of the market had dried up the income realized during the later Clinton years from capital gains taxes. His response should have been fiscal conservatism, but instead he choose to go along with wild spending and wide spread earmarks. Had he been willing to pick up his veto pen, much pain could have been prevented. Certainly, had he cracked down of Freddie and Fanny, the mortgage market collapse could have been prevented. |

Actually Bush and others tried to crack down on Freddie and Fannie. It was blocked in congress by the Democrates who accused Bush and the Republications of being on a Freddie and Fannie witch hunt. I remember the Dem's saying everything was just fine with Freddie and Fannie and the then current CEO was doing a wonderful job. Guess we know different now.
For me it was amnesty and the budget where I believe he failed. |

Who was it that controlled the House and the Senate for the 1st 6 years of Bush's term? Just wondering....because whoever controls the subcommittees controls the bills that are brought to the floor. |

And the real fools in all of this are we voters. How many ever paid any attention to the candidates other than how they looked and whether they said anything we wanted to hear? How many voters ever reviewed the available public documents on who contributed to the campaigns or ever noticed who the "groupies" were who handled the campaign and managed the candidate's appearances, wrote the speeches and were being paid out of campaign funds for "services" ? The question also is, will we be as blind and deaf during Campaign 2010? Next year Florida will be electing a new governor and subordinate offices; and at the federal level a new senator, and all of the representatives. Who will bother to really find out who the candidates are and if they are beholding to anyone? And if you think the news media will do that job with accuracy and without bias, I know where there is some swampland along the Gulf Coast where TV-II can be built - it just needs your investment. |

Those responsible need to be rooted out and run out of Washington.

It's a telling tale of where this started and who were the one's responsible for causing it.
What amazes me is the fact that the very same people who caused this mess are the ones still running the show and now are making the American people pay for it in a big way. Why are they still in office? |

Apathetic America.
As in an earlier post there are only 545 individuals running this country....there are 300 million of we the people. That is a lot of we the people doing nothing about all that is being done wrong by our non representative representatives...it will soon be too late to matter. BTK |
