It takes a community of caring people to keep ourselves safe from this invisible enemy. Here is a video of an easy mask using paper towel, printer paper, tissue, thin rubber bands and staples.

Very Cool & clever idea but a PITA and the elastics would kill my ear (tried the T-shirt version w/elastics). I'd love to see 90% of the people complete that in 2 or even 5 minutes and actually be able to use it. It took him 4+ minutes (not counting cutting time) to finish and one good wet sneeze

yeah...I saw one of these in the Publix parking lot that some friggin' jerk decided to take off and just leave it there next to where their car was parked..... there was a reason states decided to put a bottle return bill in place... have you seen the rubber gloves that these jerks are leaving on the parking lots in Publix and WD....really makes you think that you're living with responsible adults doesn't it |

I hope everyone realizes that these masks protect other people from you sneezing ... and are a reminder to keep your hands away from your face.
They don't protect you from much of anything. Just keep that in mind. |

If hoarding is being prepared, then oh well. After this is over, I will be better "prepared" in the future. This is not as simple as a hurricane blowing over in two days. They are predicting a worse scenario pandemic this winter, so I WILL stock up on necessities and I will not care if those two other little pigs or the grasshopper are not prepared. We have had a wake up call, so we can either be worried about what strangers call us, OR we can take care of our family and selves. When I shop, I take one or two items that I will need, not as many as I can cart away. But, I shop at different markets to gather the items I need to "hoard" or to be "prepared." If you don't prepare, then shame on you. Do not presume to belittle those that stockpile supplies for a hard winter.
Yes, hospitals do need masks. We can make our own, until the paper ones are manufactured and up to the demand. You can make a cloth one that is just as good as the '95's by inserting a piece of non-woven material in them to add to the filtering. The paper masks that the hospitals use are just that, non-woven material. It's not up to the government to make your life comfortable. If you do not prep, then you have no right to ridicule those that do. I prep and I share with my neighbors that can't fend for themselves. Instead of complaining that someone else made it to the meat counter before you, or one that snatched the last pack of toilet paper, take some time off from playing golf or hiding in your home and start your day early and be at the store when it opens. Wear your mask and gloves and carry the wet wipe with you that they offer at the door so that you can wipe things off when you pick them up to set in your cart. If you do not survive this, it's likely because you are not willing to prepare yourself or willing to be cautious. And quit complaining about everyone else. Our parents had it worse than us and theirs had it worse before them. You have guidelines on how to prevent the illness from getting you, so if you catch it, it is likely your own fault. As the fictitious Vulcans like to say in salutation, "Live long and prosper." And like the Boy Scouts of America like to say "BE prepared." |

However, have you ever smelled a damp Bounty towel after drying your hands? They smell like canned salmon! I suppose it’s the sizing used in manufacture to help them hold their shape, but it is unpleasant. I wouldn’t want that over my nose. Maybe okay if I were a salmon fisherman. |

I wore one of these masks to Publix today. I have to say this mask is one of the better fitting masks that I saw today. There are fabric masks that have big gaps on the side of the face. There are surgical masks that are not worn properly. People have masks on but their nose is not covered. It was really quite interesting watching all the different varieties of face coverings. Even some of the store bought masks do not fit properly with large gaps at the bridge of the nose and gaps on the sides. Honestly, this paper towel mask leaves no gaps at all around the face.
The mask is very comfortable, especially the thin rubber bands around my ears. I didn't even know there were rubber bands around my ears, that is how comfortable they were. My glasses did not fog up which was quite nice. My mask did not have an odor of salmon because I guess I didn't wear it long enough to get moist. This mask fits under the chin very generously. In the comments section of the video which I linked to in the first post, the doctor said this mask should last 4 hours before one would need to change it.
