Default Salt for a water softener.

Does anyone know of a service in the Villages that would deliver and load salt in a water softener. The 40 pound bags are getting tougher to lift.

While not an ideal solution, most stores will load the bags for you, then when you get home open the bags and transfer to a smaller bucket to fill the water softener. Other possible solution would be to hire one of the many handymen on this site, you might still have to pick up the salt.

Ask a neighbor. We have at least 10 neighbors who wouldn't hesitate to do this 5-minute task once a month or every other month.

Back in MN, we used Culligan. They offered a Salt delivery service and they would load the salt for you. Of course they charged more for the salt, like $10/bag instead of $5/bag in the store but you got it delivered and the loaded into your tank. You could schedule them to come monthly. They other option might be to just keep a 2 qt pitcher and do scoops of salt instead of lifting the entire bag. You could take it down to a manageable level and then lift it....

We do not have a water softener BUT, I would expect you would keep the salt in your garage. This is Florida. It is humid. I would expect people who suggest you open the bag and add a bit at a time will find they have a solid lump of salt.

The salts, I think are sodium chloride, common table salt and calcium chloride. We have used both to melt snow and ice. I seem to recall the calcium chloride in opened bags, did not form lumps as badly as the sodium chloride did.

Also Potassium Chloride (KCl)... That's what our system uses...

Calcium chloride can not be used in a softener. The softener removes calcium and magnesium thus requiring sodium or potassium salt as the only salts of choice.

Why do people post with , I don’t know ,I expect, maybe, I think, etc. What help are they providing by giving wrong information?

Not sure your point. A large part of knowledge is knowing what you don't know and declaring it.

Imagine-but some pseudo-name told me it was so, it is legal etc.

I think Ace delivers to customers homes, they would unload them but you would have to get someone around the neighborhood to empty them into the tank.

I use potassium chloride. Much better for your health than salt. Best price I could find was at Sparr building Supply.
