Got an offer in the mail today from Jenkins Nissan of Leesburg. They are offering to pay me “100% of the manufacturer’s original suggested retail base price” on a trade-in.
It seems to be too good to be true. Has anyone taken them up on it? Was it real?? |

Secondly, what they give you for your "trade" isn't relevant. It's the "difference" between your trade and the new car you want. If they mark up the car you want to buy, they can offer you more money for your trade. If they want to trade actual MSRP for actual MSRP, go for it .... but it likely won't happen. |

Hey! They might even give you full list price for your old car .... but tack on a $25,000 dealer fee on the new one for undercoating and floor mats. These are CAR DEALERS you're dealing with. There ain't no free lunch (or discount one for that matter).

Going into a car price negotiation is primarily getting you into the showroom. Getting you away from your computer. The ad gets you in. They then control the process. Do it by EMAIL and find out their gimmick. Recognize that they will not lose money. If you think you got a good deal, they know they did.

I got a similar offer from a Nissan dealership up north and just for $hits and giggles I brought in my Nissan Frontier. When they saw my truck had over 100 thousand miles on it they didn’t want anything to do with me.

If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Says to deduct for mileage. Their rate is high enough to reduce the offer to below zero. |

Don't trust them. They send in the "high pressure" salesman and he insults Villagers and treats you like you're stupid. Bought 2 cars from them...won't ever again. Now...the service people are nice. Sales...not so much.

I have not seen that particular ad/mailing but in general we look at them, laugh and throw them away. We used to spend time trying to figure out the "gimmick" and there always was a catch if you read closely all the fine print. Eventually we gave up.
We had GM dealer in Phoenix that we liked. They put a board up in the showroom with the price of every car they had in stock. Salesmen sat at their desk and when you have found one that you want to look at you take the card to them and they have it brought out for you. If you want to buy it, they filled out the paper work and you paid the price on the board. No, gimmicks, no dealing, just a fair price. |

Basically they will make it look like getting fabulous deal when in reality you just gave them you trade in.
