Default Choosing granite

We are so excited that next week is when we go down to TV to meet with the design center to pick and choose everything we want for our new home. I know I am going to feel like a kid in a candy store I do have a question though. When I picked out my granite in my current home, I walked through aisles and aisles of slabs in a huge warehouse until I found the one I wanted and that slab was marked with my name.

Seeing how each slab of granite is different, what is the process in TV? Do they offer different grades of granite?

Are they still using GE appliances? For some reason I thought I heard they were switching over to Whirlpool. Just curious. Thanks!

What you do is walk through the different models that have the items you will be choosing for your home. I would take a digital camera and paper. It got confusing after going through so many models so the pictures helped as I changed my mind. I also had an A and B choice so if the A choice was too much money I could use my B choice. Maybe they changed how you select but that was how the process was for us with our new home. I know that the floor tile we picked was one of their most expensive. Good Luck.

Hope to see you at the design center. I was also thinking of the same questions. We are coming down Tues. and go from there.

Thanks Mikitv for the suggestions on A & B choice. Our sales rep has been very helpful with providing prices on the upgrades I want.

Gee, those model homes were probably built a few years ago, so how can they sell the same granite that is in those homes? Granite is a natural stone that comes from the ground and each piece is different.

I wonder if I am better off getting my granite elsewhere where I will have more control over my selection. Will I be able to get my home with no countertops so I can get my granite put in immediately? Has anyone done this?

Thanks

Gisele,

The model homes change in usually less than a year. They build a set here and there, sell them and build more, decorate them, sell them....and on and on.

The granite choices are narrower than if you were doing a custom build back home. It is all a set process and so you will NOT be able to pick any granite other than what the developer offers UNLESS you do like our friend Blondie did and have it installed after closing. The house must have countertops to close so just go with formica.

I know, it is different, but it works.

Default Granite

We just went thru this process in Dec. and moved in Feb. 17th. I do not think they would allow you to close on a home with no counter tops. If you are in doubt on the granite after you see it. You may want to go with the least expensive laminite top, and change that to granite, when you are ready.
Everything is a package, and example is if you pick a certain ceramic tile, then that dictates the color of the rug, in the bedrooms. The model you go into may have granite in the Kitchen, bathroom and Laundry room. If you choose that particular granite, that is what you get in your house.
The model home centers are built, and change frequently. The model, designers and cottage homes, that were used in Dec. are now for sale. I am sure a new center will open soon. Hope this helps, it is a very confusing process. Take pictures and have a back up choice on as much as you can.

So I guess I can't get Stainmaster carpet in my bedroom then, huh? Oh gee this is going to be quite a process for a very picky person like myself.

I am sure I will get through it all. I wonder if it is cheaper to get the granite aftermarket. Any suggestions for anyone who does a good job with a great selection for granite that we can visit this week when we are down?

Thanks so much for all of your help. This board is so helpful my husband and I really appreciate all the help everyone has given us.

In some Premiers you can get wood floors, but in all other homes..no matter the size or cost there are two carpet choices; plush or short shag in one neutral color.

We have the plush and I like it. It is a nice neutral and is holding up well and probably is Stainmaster.

We will be going through this soon, again. Our house up here in Ohio is going on the market.

Which means we will sell our loved home in The Villages too, to build another one...

Anyone want a beautiful Camellia in Hadley fully decorated?

The "everything" is a package has changed several times since we purchased a little over two years ago. We had limited choices but the only thinks linked were the wall and carpet were tied to our tile choice.

Your sales rep will have the latest info on what you can and can't separate as of now. One piece of advice i will give you is - if cabinets are tied to your flooring and or laminate choice, be careful. When our neigh bought the packaging WAS in effect. She chose the least expensive flooring because her husband wanted the same floors they had in their prior home. Only problem is that flooring was packaged with very inexpensive (I'm being polite here) kitchen cabinets and laminate. Be sure you ask lots of questions. If you are certain of the cabinets and or tile you want, your sales rep can bring sample pieces as you tour the models to select granite etc.

We were reminded that the developer has over 40 years doing this and they have a pretty good idea on the kizillion options people look for. That is how models get extensions here, larger here, smaller there, brand Y versus brand Z, etc. It will be somewhat of an adjustment, for sure.

We are planning on a pre-owned as our marriage wouldn't survive going through all the selection options when you build. My wife simply can't make up her mind (hope she doesn't read this)! LOL

We just had granite installed in our home. We used ARS granite on 441/27 just north of 466a. They have some slabs in stock but we needed slabs at least 130" long so we would not have seams, so they sent us to Tampa Stone Warehouse where they had 100's of slabs and we picked out the two slabs for us. ARS did a great job fabricating and installing. George is the owner and Kim is the receptionist. Phone #787 1419. I know that they do some new installs in TV.

Wish we had them. All Star Kitchen & Bath just did an awful job for us and trying to get them to fix problems currently.
