Sort of the same here in the Baltimore metro area. Right now it's 61 and cloudy with a light wind. Schools & universities closed for tomorrow, transit is operating on an "hour-by-hour" basis, BG&E making robo-calls telling people to expect to be out of power for up to 7 days. (Unfortuantely that happens very regularly after standard summertime T-Storms) fist fights reported at Lowe's over generators and of course nothing left on the store shelves.

Sunday morning 9:30 am. Clinton CT Harbor area. High tide already having an impact.
Took a walk this afternoon and whole harbor area is buzzing. Town boat launch backed up 5 deep getting boats out; people hanging plywood over windows; everything that can move being stowed! Barrier island and one low lying beach road under mandatory evacuation but I'm 1/4 mile up from water at 22ft above sea level so should be ok. Wind not supposed to be the issue, strom surge / high tide is. We will be holding on for wet ride. ![]()

We're in suburban Philadelphia. All public transportantion will be shut down. All schools closed. Mandatory evacuations in designated areas. It's supposed to be a storm of monumental proportions around here...and to think I was worried about moving to "hurricane alley" ...in Florida.

Fire Island the barrier beach on Long Island is now evacuated.
My son has a home on the south shore, on the water, he's packing now, raising all valuables up high. The bay is up about 3.5 feet now and it's not here yet, forecast can put his first floor under water.

Not to take this storm lightly but it is only a category 1 and it is (as of now) 500 miles from NYC and all the havoc its creating already.
I shutter to think what would happen had this been a stronger hurricane. |

We were in CT for the storm last October. Lost several 100 year old maples on the driveway. The town was shut down for 9 days...no electricity. Took a couple weeks to get all the downed trees cleared. This storm is much worse. They are evacuating all of Fairfield County.
In Villanova PA, they are closing for Monday and Tuesday. Many kids have left campus. This is a monster. When you consider we had winds for 3 days, and it is nowhere near here, it isn't a surprise to think how bad it will be for those who actually in its path. I am really glad we are here. |

My sister and her husband evacuated (they live in NJ) as they are right near a marina and their neighborhood is low lying.
Hopefully everyone will make it through the storm safely. Good luck to all who will be impacted.........

The back end of the storm is pushing the sea water into Long Island Sound and once in it can't get out against the push of the storm. Add the fact that its a full moon high tide tomorrow night, the potential may be devestating. Tides of 10-11 feet above normal here and nearly as high in NYC are more than problematic.
