Smile Brighthouse or Comcast Help me Choose

Hi:

I've had Comcast for 5 years for internet and basic cable. Now my bill is $72.00 a month for a promo rate. I do not need the cable TV portion as I have Direct TV but they told me I had to take the cable TV in order to get the internet. I tried to cancel the basic cable but they said then my bill would go up to $81.00 a month. Trying just to talk to someone and get them to help me has been maddening. I have spent hours on the phone waiting and waiting and getting the runaround. I have done some searches on TOTV and have read that Brighthouse is an option for internet. I have the highest speed that Comcast offers so I would need that. Can you all tell me if I am making a mistake by ditching Comcast and picking up Brighthouse for internet only? How is their customer service? Do you have speed problems with Brighthouse and interruptions? Any help will be much appreciated.

No problem with Brighthouse. Buy the speed you want...no interruptions.

Comcast, without frills. I also have a HDTV antenna, no Cable receiving over air, not all channels, just the major ones

Do you live south of 466a? It's my understanding that Brighthouse is only taking customers on that side.

Default Wow!...Didn't know we had a choice...

at least NOT in Lake County....I know that if you go with Comcast, you have to be diligent....When Promotions end, CALL Comcast and find out what NEW promotions they are now offering!....Your bill could increase by as much as 30%.....Brighthouse seems to have better reviews...Sure wish it was available to us....I've been told that they are "one in the same"

We have Comcast but they are hard to deal with. Got rid of all cable with them and just have internet for $49 a month. I think we're on some sort of promotion b/c we complained about the rising cost. So not sure how long that will last. We were pleasantly surprised to find out we still have basic channels, Fox, CBS, NBC, ION, ABC with no cable bill at all. They come in perfectly on our HD TV. So back to the good ol' days before Cable was even offered.

We also ditched NetFlix and watch all movies and series on Amazon Prime now for $39 a year. Thousands of movies and TV series at our disposal. We've even been watching Gilligan Island and started with the very first show. No commercials. Loving it.

Thanks for all of the replies. I did call Brighthouse and found out they are not in the area at least on my street in Hadley.

Have you called CenturyLink? They are expanding their service areas and I've never had a moment's trouble with them. So glad I switched!

Wish we did have a choice between Comcast and Brighthouse but unfortunately, I don't believe we do. I think it's either a satellite dish or one of the two cable companies. We do need competition.

I won't go into any detail, but if you are going with Comcast, be sure and get your prices in writing. Enough said.

I live in The Pinellas and got Brighthouse for Internet and Phone. I was happy I didn't have to use Comcast. However I have had a lot of connection problems since my installation in May. (we were gone June and July). I have had servicemen out to the house 4 times with 3 of those times to swap out new equipment latest time being last week. I live in a Sunflower and the equipment is in the front den. My wife can't get a connection on her I-Pad in the bedroom and has to come out to the living room to connect. My cell phone keeps telling me my internet connection is poor.

I run speed tests all the time and most times it is at 11 Mps but other times it drops to .5 and other times drops the connection all together. I must say that Brigthouse has some of the nicest service reps and will get a serviceman out to you very quickly. But I am getting a bit discouraged. It's only my disdain for Comcast and Century Link that has kept me a customer but I must say I am coming to the end of my patience.

We have had Bright House for many years and couldn't be happier! I miss Channel 13 when I am at my house in TV. Bright house isn't available north of 466. We have phone and Internet service too. In the few occasions I have had issues, they are out quickly to help. They have really good service.

I am in the same situation. My only other option is Century Link. The little bit of savings I would see by switching to Century Link would be eaten up with installation charges and the modem and wireless router rental. Now Comcast wants to charge you for troubleshooting beyond the basic, "unplug your modem" diagnosis. Unbelievable.
