Default Meet and greet

Hello everyone,
We've been in Springdale/Woodbury Village since Feb 13'. I have responded to outdated posts example meeting new people posted back in 07' on here. I didnt realize it until I looked at the small print above the pic of the people.
I do find so far people are clicky here in TV, hard to make friends.
I play as a newbie mah jongg at the rec centers and have been enjoying the game. Have been looking to be involved w a group as perfect ex. Someone told me that people who have been friends for a while "if you're lucky and they're sympathetic" they might allow you to join them. So far no luck, wondering that now I'm posting a new post on this, has or/is anyone feeling the same?
Also I notice that people older than us dont seem to have patience w us, I guess that's because they've been there done it not interested anymore so they've moved on too. People moving to TV of all ages, in all the Villages, from N of 466 to S of 466 I'm wondering what their feeling is on this topic??? Looking forward to hearing from you with an open mind please, Lynn

Lynn, the text you have above is cut and paste from another thread you started today which also identifies you as "Lynn and Bruce"....this thread is for singles. The very reason this thread was created was to solve the problem of walking into an activity or club cold and trying to make friends, which is more difficult for singles in my view. I wish you well.

I sure hope that people are not clicky and making friends will be easy. I finally retired and will be in The Villages at the end of the month. Being a single, I am concerned about making new friends and being accepted. I am not one to "put myself out there" but will try to move outside of my comfort zone to be able to fit in. I look forward to golfing, playing pickleball (perhaps with Kitty?), attending exercise classes, etc. I am not much into dancing but do enjoy listening to music. I hope you have just run into the wrong people and that most people are very accepting.

Here is an easy way to make friends for anyone just a little shy.

I did this on the second day after we landed here at our home in Hadley six years ago. We brought some card tables and chairs and a few pieces of furniture, but were not company READY.

I went around and knocked on doors and said we were going to have a coffee at our house, please come, next day. Bring chairs for driveway.

Went to Publix and bought five coffee cakes and some Styrofoam cups, etc, and they came. Maybe twenty of them, our neighbors, new too.

It was the beginning of some very beautiful friendships that have grown over time. They were people who we had never met and they have grown into people we care about.

The fear of public speaking is not the greatest fear in the U.S. I am convinced the fear of entertaining people in your home is.

Or another idea is to make a big casserole of your never fail recipe or buy a frozen Stouffers Lasagna, and ask people to bring something to share. Potlucks are common in the middle part of the country, not so much on the east coast, I have learned, but it is a great way to have a gathering and easy on everyone.

People don't mind paper plates and plastic forks. It is the getting together that matters.

Ann Landers
aka Gracie.

P.S. You get back out of life about what you are willing to put into it.
People are just as shy and scared as you are. Take the first step.
Mahjong is NOT the place to make friends. It is shh. shh. shh. You can't be friends until you talk, listen, smile and care.

Gracie

Thank you for the suggestions. I am fortunate that I have a sister in The Villages and have casually met a few people. I am not shy but am not an "in your face" person. I plan on trying to get to know my neighbors now that I will be here for an extended period of time, not just my usual 10 days per year. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people, making great friends, and enjoying everything The Villages has to offer. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you some day.

Kitty,
You have a knack for words. Do you write? There are several writing groups in TV. Many of the attendees are writing for the first time.

Hi, I am Nelson from the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. I live in Winafred helping take care of my parents on and off until spring. Thank goodness we are looking to get a bigger home. I do get to enjoy a lot of golf. I have been single for many years. 3 children and 2 grandchildren, all in the Northern Neck. I also enjoy tennis, boating and some pickleball. Life is great!

Default Hi Gang!

I'm Janice from Columbus, Ohio.

Not as retired as I'd like but inching toward it. I bought a model on Hillstream in Gilchrist and will be down in January to close. I own a career coaching firm that my son will buy while I settle in TV. I'm pretty outgoing and love to run in a pack. I write a newspaper column, am a news junkie, love politics (even now) and all kinds of music.

I love the sense of community here and can't wait to join you all!
