Why are the sports pools in TV for residents only?

Whenever my wife have been to them for lap or combo swimming we have been the only ones there, high season (March) or low (now)

For pickleball, however, we have often had to wait for a court, yet visitors are allowed to use the pickleball courts but not the sports pools

There is already a lower age limit, so there's no danger of them being swamped with kids, but if I have a visitor who wants to do some laps they have to go in a Neighbourhood pool and dodge people who are just there to chill out

I wonder the same thing. My adult children would love to be able to use the empty lanes at the sports pools. We have to get to the neighborhood or family pools early in the morning so they can do some sort of laps. Meanwhile I swim laps in nearly empty pools much of the time. Anyone have an answer?

I go to water aerobics at Colony and Seabreeze and the pools are only allowed 85 occupants and with residents only, the classes are closed usually at least 1/2 hr before the scheduled time due to capacity. Some lap swimmers need to wait for lanes at certain times also. So they are used significantly @ 9am, 11am and 2pm.

This might be a case of being careful what you ask for. If the sports pools were opened to visitors, they might become overcrowded at optimal times.

To be honest, almost every time I've gone to swim laps, either at Colony, SeaBreeze or Lake Miona, the lanes have been full. I have never been the only one there. Cybermuda, what pool do you go to that is so rarely used?

Before moving to TV, I used the local YMCA (now known as just "Y") pool for lap swimming. To accommodate extra swimmers when there were more swimmers than lanes, we would swim "circles". In other words, two, sometimes even three swimmers would share the same lane and follow each other up and down the pool. It worked fine as long as both swimmers moved at approximately the same speed. You'd have to be alert to avoid locking arms when passing in opposite directions, but otherwise, no problem.
The next time you're faced with a long wait for an available lane, politely ask a swimmer if he/she would mind sharing the lane with you. The lanes in the fitness pools are wide enough to handle two people. All they can do is either turn you down or agree to be your lane partner.

I have to agree with you. It might not be crowded now but wait until the "busy" season. Some amenities should be left to the residents only.

Have to agree with all of the above.

Keep in mind, we now have the additional sports pool at Seabreeze and classes are still overcrowded.
What's going to happen when our seasonal residents return?

I think we should leave well enough alone.

We swam at Lake Miona on Saturday and it was empty. When we were here in February-March we swam at all of the pools and we were usually the only ones there, or were with just one other person.

We tend to go to "open" or "combo" sessions rather than specific "lap" sessions, so maybe they are used less.

Certainly, organised sessions should be just for residents if they are usually fully subscribed, but maybe the "open" sessions could be made truly open?

Good to hear that we are all using the pools so much - they are fine facilities and swimming is such a great way to stay fit and healthy - keep it up :-)

I wonder if most of us realize how family friendly TV is compared to other
55+ communities?

During our travels we have found communities where guests had to be accompanied by a resident at all times when using amenities and
grandchildren could only use the pools at certain times.

Here we have family pools and rec centers where our guests of all ages can swim, play pool, bocce, shuffleboard etc,
enjoy resort style amenities and dance at the Squares at no extra cost.

We even have a summer camp program for the grandchildren!


That being said, I think the sports pools should remain reserved for residants only.

I swim laps most days. The lanes are usually full. What sport pool are you talking about that's empty?
Seabreeze Colony and Laurel Manor etc. have never been empty when I've been there..
