I have to watch a few more shows to see if I like the judges or not. It was strange to see so many youngsters due to the new rules.

There was a documentary last night on Oprah's new TV channel about Simon Cowell. What a fascinating man. I miss him on Idol.

I miss him too. He also seems to be the Yang to Ryan Seacrest's Yin. You kind of need both of them for the show to work well.

I think Idol was long due for a change. Steven Tyler is the best thing to happen to this show. He funny and honest and you know just by looking at him when a performer is doing real well by his great reactions. Jennifer Lopez, I thought, was going to be a problem, but she comes across so professional and sweet and just, real.
I'm liking this years Idol, so far, better than the last couple of years

Simon who?

Good post, Richie; my feelings exactly. I really didn't think that I would like Steven Tyler, but looks can be deceiving as he turns out to be a delight with antics that are amusing. Each judge is respectful to the contestants which is so much better than Simon's rudeness, as well as Simon's flirtations with Paula (yuk).

I like this years panel because they are quick to give a yes or no to the contestant. The contestant seem to have a little more respect for the newer member panel opinions as Jennifer and Stephen are superstars.

I will watch this year because I think it will flow more smoothly and not have unecessary drama.

We are loving this year's Idol. Such a fresh change in judges.

Randy has seemed to have picked up Simon Cowell's attitude. They seem to have more delusion singers on this series of city auditions. I wonder how they get past the screeners unless they are put through purely for entertainment purposes. There must be a couple of hundred decent singers that could have made it to the Jennifer-Steven-Randy panel in place of the singers who are just plain bad.

I am not complaining though as I enjoy the lousy singers more than the many average to above average singers who could have had their places.

I was ready to hate Steven Tyler as a judge - never liked his music or his band all that much. And I always had an impression of J-Lo that she was arrogant. I was wrong on both fronts based on what I've seen so far. Both are funny, likable and knowledgeable. My problem is the new rules that allow younger singers. Way too many 15 year old's "going to Hollywood", and I'm afraid many may "get chewed up" by the system.

I think Idol has been off their game for a while. No more Carrie Underwoods or Jennifer Hudsons, just years of people who have fizzled out. Seems like they've juveniled the show and are looking for Justin Biebers now. Will always miss Simon - he's the only one who told the truth!

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean in terms of success or the style of singers? For example Adam Lambert (semi finalist two years ago) has been successful with two top 40 songs.

I take it back in writing earlier about my enjoyment of lousy auditioners. Just watched the Thursday night (2-3-11) Los Angeles American Idol episode and could not believe anyone with any musical sense at all would have put 80% of those candidates through to the judges table without thinking "that's entertaining" enough to get some ratings.

Three people on Thursday night had talent the rest caused something of an earache and headache.

Anyone have any favorites among the competitors in Season 10 of American Idol? I know that as of this writing there are about 168 people still in the running.

What do you think of Season 10's Top 24? Anyone really stand out for you. I liked the guy with the stand up bass-- Casey Abrams.
