The person who mentioned " 70's " what music ?? How about this for a tiny sampler:
Earth Wind & Fire Bee Gees ELO Ambrosia Doobie Bros Kool and the Gang 10cc Kinks Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Roxy Music Rolling Stones The Association I could go on and on, and that is not even mentioning solo artists: As for the 60's Loud banging practically senseless lyrics, protests, as for The Beatles ? They copied many, many songs that had already been hits by other artists...Lennon and McCartney were good but only OK. George Harrison and especially Ringo Starr were tag a long's. The Beatles happened to come along at the right time and lucked out. The 60's list is junk noise and certainly not " Music ". The 50's and 70's were the Best. |

Why would you say 60s was junk, then mention the Stones, Bee Gees, Kinks, and Association as good.music? All of their best work was done in the 60s.

"George Harrison and especially Ringo Starr were tag a long's."??????
Harrison was one of the most tasteful guitarists to ever live and I don't care what kind of chops you have, nobody ever played as inventively perfect as Ringo. The Beatles' success was always due to the unparalleled collaboration of all 4....and, of course, George Martin. IMHO

The Beatles. Yep, they sold more records, CDs, downloads etc. than any other artist in each and every of the past five decades.

True about The Beatles being the biggest seller. They just got better and better. But the Stones are still alive and performing which is amazing on both counts.

Ron Wood really doesn't add much to the line up. When they got rid of Brian (understandable under the circumstances) they lost the heart and soul of the original group. They then picked up Mick Taylor who is a brilliant guitarist. Taylor added something new to the group, but also changed the original feeling and concept. When he quit they picked up Wood who was mostly a bassist and is a mediocre guitarist. These days Keef tries to play some of the lead parts that Brian and Mick Taylor played, but it's obvious that he is a rhythm guitarist. Same thing for Woody. Much of the music in their live shows is being played by professional hired guns and back up singers. They have a hired bass player, keyboardist, a horn section, back up singers and I think a guitar player or two that you may or may not see. Today, Wyman is no longer with them. Charlie mostly tours Europe with his jazz band and shows up for a paycheck. Mick is desperately trying to hold onto his youth with all that idiotic dancing and Keith wanders around like a zombie. Their musicianship is terrible these days, not that it was ever all that great. They're not really a band as much as they are an event. Kind of like a carnival sideshow. People go to see them to say that they've seen the Rolling Stones. Rolling Stones tribute bands to a better job of performing their material than the originals do. Now I suppose that Paul and Ringo could find a couple of other guys and perform Beatles songs under the name the Beatles, but it really wouldn't be The Beatles then, would it?

Then there manager took a chance, changed there wardrobe, flew them to America and the rest is history. They really aren't that good...Lennon/McCartney ..yes they are only OK, as for the other two No Way. As an example ( Only ) Mick Fleetwood vs Ringo Starr. I rest my case. The Beatles filled a void and their timing was spot on mainly because of there Act and Appearance. They had original recordings certainly, but re-recorded a slew of already hit songs. 8 hrs. ...44 min...42 sec. TOTAL ![]() |

While the Beatles were singing I Want To Hold Your Hand the Stones were singing Let's Spend The Night Together.

Their first album 'Please Please Me' was 14 songs with 11 originals. Their second album 'Meet the Beatles' was 12 songs and all but one was original. The cover songs were mostly filler because unlike in America, in the UK they didn't like to release albums with only 10 songs. Also, if you notice most of those songs were in the 2 minute or less range, they could of easily strung them out to 3 minutes or more. Instead they gave us many more great songs with far less fill. |
