Leaving for a cruise Saturday with Royal Caribbean on the Independence Of The Seas. It'll be our 49th cruise.
They will have a hard time suing Carnival. I would just take the offer.

we go on cruises twice per year. The Carnival incident doe not affect our intentions what so ever. Why should it?

Are we influenced by the dangers of getting into our cars evry single day of our lives?
Are we influenced by past airline crashes as to whether we will fly again?
And so on?

Of course not....300,000 ++ cruisers daily and millions of daily flyers underscore that fact.

As for those who are suing Carnival....they are 21st century opportunists....out to milk the system that breeds such action....that would be our legal system and the ambulance chaser mentallity legal pursuit advocate lawyers.

Carnival acted as a responsible provider during a situation that was not of their making (until or unless proven other wise).

Carnival made them a generous offer and they are just gold-diggers. Yes they had a bad time on their cruise and Carnival was doing its best to make sure that they were safe.

We go on at least one cruise per year and just recently came back from a Carnival cruise on their newest ship, the Breeze, and had a fabulous time. We also cruised on the Triumph back in 2009.

I wouldn't hesitate for one second to book another cruise.

It is ridiculous to sue Carnival. Bad things happen to all cruise lines. It only seems to happen more often to Carnival because they have more ships, and own more other cruise lines. They should take the offer from Carnival and shut up. Carnival is not the best cruise line around (I prefer Celebrity), but they are very well priced. They have improved greatly the past few years, and many clubs here in TV book on them for the great value you get.

Only cruised once on Carnival, and it is not my favorite. Much prefer Royal Caribbean and Norwegian. Still, like the old joke about sex, the worst cruise I was ever on was wonderful.
Have to wonder if those people ever bothered to read what they were signing. That ticket is a binding contract.

We've been on 49 cruises & never on Carnival. We will be on our first Carnival ship in April, the Dream. The Parrot Heads have an annual cruise always on Carnival. Never thought I'd celebrate my 50th cruise on Carnival. LOL

The cruises I have been on in the past invovled almost all sea time as opposed to land time. I do enjoy some sea time but I would prefer having a lot more land time between stops. I also gained weight on cruises so I would have to ponder whether I can afford to get fat. Cruises are great.

I probably would go on a cruise ship but it might called "TV".

I just wonder if everyone posting here would be so forgiving if they had spent 5 days in hell. And until the facts are in Carnival may have been negligent by not addressing some suspect issues in the engine compartment. Please don't shoot the messenger, just thinking out loud.

Default Anyone been on Holland America?

Holland America is owned by Carnival corp but is managed separate here in Seattle. Someone suggested I apply for the craft class instructor position that she is vacating. But my husband is leary as it is for very long crusies and I have to provide the supplies so it does cost quite a bit. The longest cruise I have ever been on is 30 days circle pacific years ago on the royal viking sun (now the princendam) but that line is gone now.

Well, I agree there. If there is negligence, that is another thing. Accidents happen, but if there was something that should have been fixed that caused a fire there will be a lot of lawsuits and trouble. A fire at sea is the worst case scenario. Most dangerous thing other than hitting icebergs. Oh, and running aground like that ship in Italy that was showing off and deviated from the pre-approved sea lane.

It would be very difficult to prove that an engine fire was due to negligence.

Question Real Bad

We have been on a number of curises and have had some problems. Some were really serious and some just annoyance. In one we had a rather serious disruption that caused the ship to be delayed to the point and we had to miss a port or two. It was disrupting but we still ate, enjoyed the ship things to do, etc. What was a surprise was there was a major demonstration by a lot of passengers and some demanded outrages rewards for the delay.
In this case I think $500 + a return of the money for the cruise and a free future cruise may be a "little light" on payback for the problems they had. Because of the nasty conditions and the potential of a future illness from the terrible sanitary conditions and so on I think they should get more. If you add it up and assume they paid $3,000 per couple, + $3,000 for a future and $500 payout the total is approximately $6,500. (Note: THis was to be a short cruise and the costs would probably be written off. )I would put the amount due in the neighborhood of $25,000- $50,000 and that is low but probably closer to cover the problems these poor customers had to endure.

It's my understanding that they will not get a free cruise. They will get their money back for this cruise, $500.00 and a discount on a future cruise.

I actually know some people who wanted half of their money back on a cruise when their ship had to divert because of a hurricane and couldn't go to one of the ports on the itinerary. They said it ruined their cruise because they really want to go to that port.
