Frankly, the thing that bothers me most is I can be watching A quiz show on television where of course I will be answering questions, and suddenly Alexa starts answering the questions. I tell her to stop listening to my conversations but she just sits there with a little light circling |

Xfinity frowns on this but I had to split my network into xx2 and xx5. The xx2 will only run at 2.4G because that's the way I told it to run. Then the devices set up easily because you tell them to find xx2.

Yes, problems with wireless devices not connecting to Xfinity. I’m not too technically inclined, but as I understand it the device they give you with your internet does not transmit a wireless signal and you need to connect (with an Ethernet cable) a WAP to that device to transmit a wireless internet signal in order to connect stuff.

Good Morning
I had a problem connecting sound bar and a video camera to my Xfinity Wi-Fi. The Protocol in the modem was incorrect for connecting some devices. After much research I decided to upgrade the modem to a new model and that fixed everything. |

Please please do not take this as nitpicking. Really just trying to clarify a small point. You really mean upgrade the modem/router or just the router because the modem only really connects to the outside world. pointing this out just so someone who has a separate modem and router does not spend the money to upgrade the modem.

I don’t know much, but do know that when we recently replaced our router, all the smart plugs needed to be reprogrammed through the app. My husband was very annoyed as we have a lot.

Do you know if you used the same SSID and password in the new router? I would *hope* the devices would work without reprogramming as long as these were not changed.

The devices will NOT work on a new router with the same SSID and password. You must reset get the device to forget the old router. You would actually be better off using a different SSID and making a different connection.

After researching a little more, I stand corrected. As long as you use the same SSID, password AND encryption protocol as you did on the old one it "should" work.

Don't know why smart devices would behave any differently but also haven't taken the time to try it (yet) or heard definitively from someone who did try it.

I had the same issue. No matter what I tried Smart Plugs wouldn't work. I think it was the 5.o vs 2.4 thing or a new router. In frustration I just purchased new plugs and they hooked up immediately. Maybe they were newer technology, but I certainly wasted a ton of time on the original ones.

If I remember correctly Xfinity used both bands with the same SSiD password and expected the devices to determine which band to use. A lot of these devices can only use 2.4 but isn’t smart enough to negotiate properly. Solution is to separate the 2 bands with separate SSID’s. Both can have the same password but need the separate SSID so it can be specified during setup to use the 2.4 band.
