I agree. I have seen very little public intoxication in my short time here. Most of my neighbors don't drink and I belong to several billiards leagues and I have yet to see anyone drink or show signs of drinking at any of them. I have been to both town squares a number of times and have never seen anyone acting up.

And as has been pointed out, we are a community of 85,000 people. That's a good sized city in most states. I don't know what the total volume of alcohol sold is, but I'd love to see a statistic of alcohol consumed per capita. My guess is that it would be low based on my experience here so far.

There are various arrests for drunk driving and public intoxication in the weekly police logs in the Villages Daily Sun on Mondays. Not as many arrests though as would be in a community with a lot more nightclubs, bars, strip clubs, etc.

In support of Villagers, age does seem to bring some wisdom with respect to over indulging in alcohol-- age and diabetes type ll.

Does anyone remember the Spanish Springs Brewery ?
It was located where the new Luigino's restaurant is.

It was one of our favorite places to eat and have a beer.

Marge and Homer could fit in here.

Marge: Homer, you cannot miss Lisa's big day. And you have to come sober!
Homer: American sober or Irish sober?
Marge: .08 sober!
Homer: .15.
Marge: .09!
Homer: .10 with a stomach full of bread. My final offer.
Marge (groans): Deal.

Love the Simpsons!

I am a Villagers,
I shall not drink.

If I should drink,
I shall not get drunk.

If I should get drunk,
I shall not stagger.

If I should stagger,
I shall not fall down.

If I should fall down,
I will do so, face first,
So that no one can tell

I AM A VILLAGER.

We'll be there permanently at the beginning of November. I intend to help the total.

I take exception to the mischaracteriztion of villagers being heavy drinkers. Wasn't the faux sex scandal being passed around enough. Wait a minute I'll be right back my girlfriend is complaining that I tied the ropes around her wrist too tightly if I can get one 6 oz glass wine finsihed with my meals and not get a buzz I am doing good.

We villagers get drunk on the pure joy of living here

How many arrests per week? Remember, we are a community of 85,000 people plus guests and people who come into the Villages from the surrounding communities for the free entertainment and restaurants.

I'd love to see how we stack up against Ocala which has about 55,000 people.
