Hi BobKat,
You are right. It does sound that way... and that generalization doesn't work any better than the snowbird vs. full-timer one. DH and I are snowflakes in an established Village with mostly full-timers and mostly residents older than us. (We were both in our 50s when we bought.) We have the nicest, most helpful, pleasant and friendly neighbors anyone could ask for. They call us the younguns, but only in a friendly, complimentary way.

Mr. and Mrs. Army Guy, whom I've met, are wonderful people. I feel bad for them that they have landed in a neighborhood with a few of the relatively rare (it seems to me) Villages grumps. I hope for them that as the neighborhood matures and construction/ landscaping jobs and their associated stresses become rarer, that this too shall pass.

After all, we can't pick our neighbors, but we can pick our friends. Fortunately in TV, the abundance of friendly, happy, awesome snowbirds, snowflakes and frogs in a range of maturing ages makes having fabulous friends as easy as being one.

When we had our villa construction on-going, it was during the summer months and no one was there till October. Also when we had our spa/birdcage/summer kitchen put in this fall, I personally made sure that all construction vehicles and supplies were in front of me and on my property. Even had the huge Cement Truck back up into my yard instead of blocking street. Then every night I swept the street and picked up anything left behind.

The stones in the drive where not the only thing. If it was an accident, how about this Jan my neighbor is having his back lanai enclosed. We come back from the gym (MVP) and find he told them it was fine to set up shop, i.e. saw horses, etc and make a mess right in front of my front door and garage door. Sawdust, about an inch deep, scrapes, etc we had to clean up. A mistake or thinking we would not be home? I don't think so! Another example of trying to p i s s us off to move. But we are staying! Besides like I told our friends, we are alot younger then them, so if the good Lord willing, we will be there long after them! LOL!!!

Army Guy
I'm just wondering if you addressed your issues at the next District Meeting (I'm not sure how often District Meetings are held). And if addressed, what has been the result?

Not sure I could explain as well as AG, so I will quote PT instead...

I was a snowbird but recently became a frog. Barefoot would love to be a frog. People are the same whether they live here full time or not.

The ways of getting along with those who live close to us are the same wherever we are. You have to look for good. You can't make issues about everything and particularly small things. You may have to keep your mouth shut and your patience turned on high if your goal is to live without conflict in these very close together homes.

Is the neighbors tree that sheds leaves on your driveway enough reason to start a fuss? Is the fact that there is dirt and dust and mess from a neighbors construction enough reason to get yourself in an uncomfortable situation that will last a long time? That construction will be over in a very short time and you both will still be there. Does anyone really think that how anyone looks in a bathing suit matters to anyone else as an issue in neighborhood getting along? We all have had our time looking better than we do now.

Soon your tree will be blowing leaves in their yard as time goes on. Soon your new neigbor will be younger and less wrinkled than you. Soon the construction that made the mess will get older and need repairing.

Deep breaths. Don't sweat the small stuff. Forget about it. Forgive others foibles. Enjoy this day. Try to imagine yourself in others shoes.

We are here together and we are missing a chance at enjoying our time in lower Paradise if we make mountains out of molehills.

It is another beautiful day in The Villages.

Graciegirl, you are so right (as always). I would love to be able to spend more than 182 days a year in TV. I wish the USA had Retiree Visas for Canadians. But I'm grateful for any time I have in TV, and the wonderful friends we've made. I leave with a heavy heart, but rejoice in the fact that we'll be back in November!
