Not important really but I wanted to see what others thought and thought it would have a wide range of opinions.

Wasn't there talk several weeks ago about a new club for complainers?

Well they could be talking loud. making call after call, taking photos of people who don't want their photo taken, phone ringing multiple times. It could be a myriad of things. I can see why some people could be annoyed by a someone sitting right next to them constantly doing these things. Remember, I'm against a ban.

Good thing because I truly doubt that people will ever quit sharing some of their very personal conversations with the world around them. Personally, I prefer to do that at home, or away from others, but I understand I am very much in the minority. I have always been known as a cheerful, non complaining, glass half full person, and I don't want to change now in retirement. But...I find it so disappointing to have lunch with a friend, and have the entire time punctuated with "on, sorry, hold on, got to take this". One adult child, grandchild, friend, etc. after another, while they laugh and talk and I eat...LOL. I intentionally leave my phone in the car when I met friends for dinner, or coffee, or go to someone's home for a gathering. I absolutely DO understand those who have a seriously ill spouse, or may be waiting for a "lab" result, but honestly, these kinds of true emergencies are not the "norm". I'm sure with will draw many hateful comments as some are nearly physically attached to their cell phones, but I mean no disrespect to anyone, just one (probably the ONLY) person who would like to return to the "early days" of cell pones when they were not used to solve the problem of "boring sermons", or disappointing plays or movies, or a way for students to make it through uninspiring classroom lectures.
I have no issue with what you say here, but still, banning phones because? In a community of grump old people, everything will offend someone. Where do we stop it?

Personally, I think people should be banned from talking to a neighbor that is across the street, why is it so hard to walk over and talk like normal people. They should be banned because I don't like it?

Who would enforce the ban?
What would the penalty be for violation?

Is it poor etiquette, uncomfortable or obnoxious?

I keep running into people standing in place texting and taking selfies.
There is no difference between someone talking on the phone or talking to the person next to them. If this bothers you stay home! Petty

It is odd for me that some people never without their phone , talking , texting , playing with it . Always in their hands or close by, the most rude is while at lunch or dinner leave the damn phone turned off or at home

Probably because they do not realize how loud they are talking. Plus no one wants to hear what they are talking about. If I need to make a phone call while at the pool I leave the pool deck and head to the parking lot or my golf cart. Common courtesy, common sense.

I’m not sure about anyone else but I have found when people are talking one on one at the pool they are not nearly as loud as someone talking on a phone. I know the tendency when I’m talking on the phone is talking louder than a normal conversation and I believe it happens with most during a phone conversation. I can deal with the phone conversations at a pool but when in a check out line and someone is on the phone that’s rude especially for the cashier who is trying to collect payment.

I have yet to visit any of the pools yet, but if this is what I can expect, then I’ll spend the money and put in my own pool.
