It’s surprising how loud people talk on cell phones and expect privacy. Maybe Florida Legislature could pass an addition to the radio noise law. If I can hear the conversation 25 feet away to call the police as a complaint!

Once upon a time back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, people pretended to be civilized human beings. Now, they care more about their freedoms than they do about humanity.

Yes, you have the FREEDOM to talk loudly on your cell phone on speaker so that everyone within 20 feet of you has to hear most of the conversation. Yes, that's allowed. And yes, the rest of us have to either put up with it, or go somewhere else. Yes, you have the freedom to be obnoxious, rude, uncouth, and uncivil.

You win. Yay you.

Just remember, I also have the FREEDOM to start spontaneously singing at the top of my voice all about menstrual periods and semen.

We agree but it will never happen. Think they should be banned in finer restaurants too.

That is a foolish thing to do and will never be tolerated in any senior community center. Instead of this why aren't you not pushing free community for seniors that need transportation to rec. centers. doctor app., groceries, that is very much need in this community.

I agree with you, and just because we can do something doesn't mean we should.

My take on this thread is that it is NOT about using phones at the pool. It is about being loud and annoying at the pool and not being considerate of others. Sadly, I think one thing this "experiment" has proven is that you can not legislate morality, ethics, or consideration. So to those that are still saying they should ban them at pools and other places. Just recall the more you squeeze your hands the more the water will run out. Legislation (banning) will not solve the problem. It will just get worse, just look around at what a mess the lawmakers have made with everything else.

A lot of messages regarding cell phone noise, but no solutions. So, the old grumps got rid of the yelling kids by banning to Family Pools.

So, now we can perhaps find a way to isolate other annoyance noises at pools. To be fair, we need to ID all. Then perhaps isolate by time and area rather than ban.

1/ Cell phone Users
2/ Sports enthusiasts extolling their teams
3/ Old men, women, others with excessive gas
4/ Old people complaining about other people
5/ People from the first half of the 20th century saying "in my day Blah, Blah"
6/ Other????

I’m sorry, but go enjoy your time in the pool. Stop trying to control the world around you. Stop worrying about things out of your control. Stop infringing on others rights. Who is going to police that? And for what? Enjoy what “little time” you have left on this earth.

Our realtor said you only need 10 people to start a new club. My husband would be interested in joining. Now you only need 8 more.

Sorry, but you are a little late with your application.
Complainers Club was oversubscribed, and there is now a very long waiting list.
I have been informed, that the list is even longer than that of the Woodworking Club!

Default Banning cell phones

I don't think etiquette, in and of itself is a reason to ban phones. What harm is it to use it at or in a pool. Let them drop it once in the pool and see how it works, and to replace it. How about on the golf course, where they are so annoying, But what really bothers me, is texting and driving, and to some extend, holding the phone to your ear and driving. Texting and driving is just like operating a motor vehicle under the influence. In fact worse, your decision making to do it is not impaired. This has become just as big of a problem, safety and accident wise as OUI. It's darn right awful. And it's so preventable. Unless you have a hands free phone set up in your auto and all the new cars have them. Don't drink and drive, I mean don't talk or text. You are killing people.

The whole idea of an adult only pool is a place that is relaxing and less stressful than a sports pool or family pool.
