Also, don't forget that this is a government of the people, by the people and for the people-----and through their elected representatives the people of Florida have spoken. It's simply that certain groups don't like what they said. Who was it that famously quipped "elections have consequences"? Oh, yeah, can't mention it. But Disney's "freedom of speech" has consequences as well, just in this case I agree with you the retribution was too Draconian.
I agree that it was too Draconian. But, much worse than that is that now many unintended consequences are rearing their ugly head. Floridians will be further split apart. And the monetary costs to the state could be very high. Certainly, what is left of Florida's reputation will be toast!

Yup and I have to wonder about the intentions of a governor that does this when the state's leading revenue machine is tourism. International Tourism. 50 million tourists every year by just Disney.

7% of the population identify as LGBTQ. Whether or not they are doesn't really matter, they identify and will remember.

70% or higher of Americans support LGTBQ - many polls confirm, some higher, some lower. They will remember.

So, one has to ask oneself, is the Governor doing what is best for the State, or what is best for his primary challenge in the next Presidental election. And if this law gets overturned, will be can be assured he will use that as proof he was right.

And las tI heard Freedom of Speech is one of those things we enjoy here in American, not so much in China. It may surprise you that Disney negotiated with China for a LONG time before building in China. But, fact it a company operating in a country is bound by that countries laws. Right or WRONG.

So, Disney here acts as a socially responsible corporation, and gets blasted by the right for exercising their rights. In China they are a law biding company and they get blasted for that.

Hate rules so many.
Hate needs a WEAK minority target. Some of our leaders appear to act like childhood BULLIES as they ham-handedly grasp for POWER.

The governor is doing his job and should be commended and supported for having the courage to go after this corporations attack against families and especially small children.
I find nothing to agree with in that post. It seems to have crawled out of some dark corner of the media where conspiracy theories run wild'

Thanks. That's nice of you to say. And verbal sparring can be interesting. (and educational) I am sure that we are all "Patriotic", at least within the bounds of what we consider important. I worry about the trends that have taken the US from its top country position after WW2 to its much lower position on world lists. We could argue about which of those trends caused that to happen. We would have different opinions. I have enjoyed the PROGRESS that the US has had since WW2. (science, medicine, and social) I worry about the US vanishing middle class that began about 1990.
........We could probably agree that a country without a strong middle class is a weak country. We would likely agree that a strong military Defense is needed. And that strong borders are needed by a country. We might agree that even golfers can be a little bit athletic and it beats playing horseshoes.......See..............a little bit of love
..........Some may NOT think like me that the world is at a Historically Important tipping point - and that war in Europe today and even the French election.....is or will reflect back upon the US. (even Florida)
..........You be you, it's ALL good!

Disney is the largest taxpayer in Central Florida, paying approximately $566 million in state and local taxes each year and because they straddle the line in two different Florida counties (Orange and Osceola), both counties benefit from this money generating giant.

Walt Disney World Resort pays approximately $105 million annually in ad valorem taxes; an estimated $92.7 million is paid to Orange County and more than $10.9 million to Osceola County.

In Orange County, Disney pays more in taxes than the next 10 highest county taxpayers combined. Approximately $46 million of those funds go directly to education.

Disney generated approximately 33 percent of the Tourist Development Taxes collected in Orange County and approximately 24 percent of these taxes in Osceola County in 2013.

Disney paid or collected more than $495 million in state sales, use and communications taxes and local resort taxes for the surrounding communities in 2013.

In addition to the county taxes, Walt Disney World Resort paid more than $77.8 million in taxes to the Reedy Creek Improvement District in 2013. These tax dollars go toward building hundreds of millions of dollars worth of public infrastructure at no cost to taxpayers.

It might be interesting to know how much tax The Villages pays.
Excellent post. Very informative. Kudos!

Very good post. But, I wonder what percentage of the Income Tax we don't pay, is paid by Disney... because, someone is paying it.
