Smile A/C Unit (new homes) MUNNS

Question for my fellow NEW home friends.
As you know you get a 10 year PARTS on the AC heat pump from CARRIER and a 5 year LABOR warranty from CARRIER.

Munns will sell you the last 5 years of labor (I think was 650.00) but you have to do it in the first 24 months of ownership. - which then takes you to 100% coverage for 10 years.

How many have done this extra coverage for the LABOR , last 5 years, anyone?
Worth It?

p.s. I hate extended to be 100% - but curious to see what others have done.

THANK YOU!

It's not worth it. Obviously, Munn's has priced it to make money. But, another thing to consider is that you will be locked in to having Munn's do all of your repairs for years 5 through 10. If your HVAC system fails in July, you want it repaired immediately. But, suppose Munn's can't come to your house for 2 or 3 days, or they come and need to order a part? I want the option to call someone else to do the repair. Munn's is good, but there are several other HVAC contractors available when you need them.

I had a friend that owned a car dealership. He said that there is not an extended warranty in any business that is worth the money.

I've been in retail sales where the company wanted me to push warranties on everything.

Companies make huge money on extended warranties. That should tell you that they're are not worth buying.

Insurance is great for protection against catastrophic problems like death or fire.

IMHO better to self insure for small stuff and think you are way ahead in long run

Only if you can not afford the cost of labor. Insurance is for losses you cannot afford.

The last time I paid for an extended warranty was in 1981, I'm so far ahead of the game now that I most likely will never have enough repairs to come close to what I saved. One thing I do is use my credit card on items that have warranties as it doubles the warranty period at no charge however it does not apply to cars, boats, etc.

We used Munn's only until the warranty ended and then until the AC went down (8 years total). Then we went to another local company and the repair tech told me how Munn's should have caught the problem easily on their annual checkup - but didn't.
Munn's is in this strictly for Munn's, not you. I'd be very hesitant to tie myself to them long term.

I had a problem with my AC and Munn’s sent out 3 different technicians and charged me over $300 and never fixed the problem!
I have had good luck with JC’s AC. He came after I gave up on Munn’s and fixed the problem for less than $100. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about Chuck Farrell.

Yes it's worth it if you have trouble with the unit,...no one knows...we just had a 5 year plan and it paid for itself.

Remember, Munn's and Sun Cool donated $$$$ to the corrupt commissioner's re-election attempt. I'll
never use either one for anything!

I have lived here 11 years. I have had 3 AC problems. Problem #1 capacitor on the out side unit went bad, Munn's came at 10 PM (called at 9)and changed it about $60. I bought another capacitor on Amazon for the next time $30 to have on hand. Problem #2 capacitor on outside unit bad again. I changed it myself and ordered another on Amazon. Problem #3 Motor on inside unit stopped working. There is a solid state unit mounted on the end of the fan motor. Munn's came within an hour and put a temporary unit on and came back 2 days later and made permanent repair. #3 was just out of warranty and cost $600 parts and labor. The part on Amazon cost about $300. In all the instances I was never without AC for more than a few hours. I did not have the extended warranty. #1 &2 happened at about 4 and 8 years. #3 happened at 10 and a half years. 2 of my neighbors had the #3 problem within warranty.

I have used the extended warranty and Munns for repair. If you need repairs from Munns they will be there within 24 hours 7 days a week 365 days a year, many times the same day.

The 10 year parts only applies to the original owner otherwise it drops to 5 years. Munns will prorate the labor warranty if you sell.

I have the same guarantee from SunKol. My compressor failed after 7 years. The part was under 10 year guarantee but they charge me $711.00 for diagnostic and replacement labor. It took just about 1 hour to replace. When I questioned unreasonable labor charge I was told it is a flat rate and I should have taken their extended labor guarantee.
