Yesterday, regular golf cart was pulled over by Lady Lake Police, my question, how would the policeman issue a ticket to a non-licensed driver?
A lot of the Village residents have given up their car and license in lieu of a golf cart.

I would think that most of the Villagers have a valid driver license. However, it is not a requirement to have a valid driver license to operate a golf cart on a public street that has a speed limit of 25 mph or less.

The citation is not dependent on having a driver license. It is for a violation of the law (speeding, dui, open container, reckless driving, etc) and those carry a fine.

A Ticket/Citation is a promise to appear in Court for any vehicle code and other Infractions and some misdemeanors.

I have not heard of points being attached to your driver license for a golf cart violation. Are you sure about that?

I have heard the fines regarding golf cart violations are mighty heavy. It is even against the law to sit in your golf cart at the town squares and have a beer or alcoholic drink while parked. People have been cited for that and paid a hefty fine.

Quoting the Lady Lake Police Chief.."Once we confirm someone’s identity, we would issue the citation to the person committing the infraction regardless of whether they were legally licensed or not. An individual does not need a driver’s license to commit a traffic violation. If, for example, a person that never had a driver’s license was stopped and cited, the State would issue that person a driver’s license number to track their infraction history. It is actually quite common for people to drive vehicles without ever having obtained a driver’s license."

I imagine it would be done like they do for kids under the age of 14 caught driving a cart: Their picture is taken, the police officer immediately issues a license number and a ticket is issued. (For kids, they then send a notice of the infraction to the home state so that when the child is ready to get a license or learner's permit under the age of 18, it won't happen.)

You don't have to have a drivers license to have points recorded. If someone is convicted of an offense that would have points applied to their driving record and they do not have a drivers license, the points are applied to your privledges to operate a motor vehicle in the issuing state. This could be applied to someone who only has a state issued ID card, out-of-state drivers license and if you don't have either, a record would be created to record your offense and points. If enough points are accumulated within a certain period of time, it could wind up suspending your privledges which in turn could prevent you from obtaining a license until the suspension period is served and/or terminated by the issuing authority!

Yep. Columbus OH went nuts for a while in the downtown area a number of years ago, handing out jaywalking tickets left and right. Purportedly, they were trying to cut down on car-versus-pedestrian accidents. But after much protesting by the public, they cut way back on their enforcement.

I was able to find a newspaper article noting this........from 1984!!!

Yup. San Francisco cops love to give 'em, especially in the Financial District. They seem to go on a jaywalking ticketing binge every five years or so -- those tix are downright pricey and do give you moving violation points.

I almost got hit today by a golf cart driver who failed to stop coming out of a tunnel. Good thing I had slowed down in case that happened.
