Just saw the news report about the so-called weather balloon, it’s approaching Tennessee a long way from Montana. One comment they said was the Chinese are just trying to embarrass the U.S. & the Chinese wanted us to know that they knew we would see it. One comment said we should try & bring it down & look & see what it’s carrying. The Chinese could be getting information the whole time it crossing our air space, so the longer it’s up there the more information they can get. I say take it out, the Chinese wouldn’t put up with the U.S. if we did that.

Back in my time in the military there was SIGINT, signals intelligence and may still be called that. Intelligence agencies monitor the airwaves recording electronic signals put out by military and civilian sources. This information can be quite informative and useful in pinpointing major military communications centers and gathering classified information. I don't believe satellites have the capability to do that.

I suspect our military intelligence knows exactly what’s being transmitted and learning from it.
