A couple of possibilities for you: Do NOT use liquid or gel dishwasher detergent. It is very caustic and can ruin finishes on some glasswear, china and silverware. Most of the better manufacturers recomment Cascade or Finish (powder). Jet Dry will also help with spotting. Check the setting of your hot water tank. 120 degrees is plenty; any more and you're wasting your money.

I hope everyone's sugestions help.

The water here is probably the hardest water anywhere. That means it's full of minerals. It's tough on your dishes, your clothes and your skin.

I use white vinegar rather than jet dry. Cheaper with same or better results.

Try several different brands of detergent - they each have different chemistry. What works in one place doesn't automatically work in all places. Jet-dry (or similar) will also help.

Same thing happened to me. We do not have a water softner and our water is hard. Finish Quantum makes everything sparkle.

Ditto! 1 cup of vinegar in the dishwasher with every use.

LEMISHINE really worked. I added it the way it said to on the bottle and it worked SO well it took off the print on a cheaply printed coffee mug from Hazels Gulf Shores. I just did a second load of dishes without using the Lemishine and they are still not cloudy. So, I conclude....use Lemishine but don't use as much as they say and it looks like you don't have to use it every wash.

Do you put the vinegar in the dishwasher at the beginning of the cycle, or do you add it during the rinse cycle?

Smile Order bubble bandit from amazon!

I had cloudy dishes, too, and complained to a friend. She told me that it is the phosphate free soap that we are forced to use.... However, you can order the most amazing soap from Amazon and I promise you, NO more cloudy glasses!

Do a search for "Bubble Bandit" and order it! You will NOT be sorry! I could see a HUGE difference in my glassware after 1-2 washes. Just to make sure I was seeing things properly, I went back to Cascade Pro for a wash...ICK! Glasses came out merky/cloudy, again! No more Cascade (and yes, I use Jet Dry with every load, but dishes were still cloudy), ever again. Bubble Bandit has our business forever!

Default Something has to work

My dishes come out so horrible in the dishwasher that I've resorted to hand washing them. I've tried putting vinegar in the dishwasher and trying different detergents, Jet Dry....nothing works. Eventually, we are getting a water softener and house filter but until then I will try your other ideas. I sure hope something works. My plates come out with such a film on them and black marks on them. Most of the time my silverware doesn't come clean. My hot water heater is plenty warm. I look forward to trying your ideas.

Ok so I use jet dry, Cascade Complete and throw in 1/2 cup vinegar and my dishes sparkle. I am in Fernandina. Not one spot on my wine glasses.
