Do I miss the snow, ice, white outs, black ice, shoveling/snow blowing, driving behind snow plows, being cold no matter how many layers? Um, NO! My husband is on the fence about it and says he 'enjoyed' the activity of it all . I think he misses hockey! but just today in the rainy chilly New Year's Day, he admitted he was cold (dressed in shorts and a jacket) and thinks he's becoming a Floridian. We don't live in the Villages yet but in southern FL trying desperately to get to sell the house and move to the Villages. He won't be able to hang out at the hockey rink in the Villages but there will be lots of other things to do! It is a big decision to move south. You have to be ready! Good luck!

I have the same heating system here in PA that we have in our FL home. Both houses are all electric. Of course, our FL home is much smaller. But even comparing utility bills with our cousins in FL, who have much larger houses, our bills up north on a monthly basis are almost always higher than theirs. Maybe one or 2 months ours is lower by like $20 or so.

So for us, moving to FL will be a big win in that sense. Maybe it depends on where you are coming from and the utility rates in your former area that makes it a different scenario for you.

We have not found the AC bills to be anywhere near what we paid up north. It is much more expensive to heat than to cool.

Sorry, I should have said same heating/air conditioning system - in other words a heat pump with back-up electric. Otherwise, comments above still stand.

No, but I want a refund for this week when temps here will dive into the low 20's! Wasn't there some sort of "below freezing refund" warranty that comes with the monthly amenities fee?

We moved in Jan 2017 (well first 2 mos we rented) and on the ride down from NJ we were 5 miles ahead of a 28" blizzard in NC then the day we arrived (Jan 6th I believe) it was 30 degrees here.

Correct. We have lived all over the country and lived in Melbourne, FL three times and now live in the Minneapolis area. There is a difference among electric, gas, and propane in different places including the houses themselves.

If a buyer wants to know what the utility rates are like, he can ask the seller for copies of their bills for the past year.

Our electric bills are not high at all here in our 10 year old TV home with the original HVAC system. I'm really impressed at how efficient the system is and we keep our home very cool at 75 to 76 degrees all summer. Compared to what we paid in NJ in the summer for electric, Florida is a bargain!

Born and raised on Long Island. I LOVED the winters and the snow when I was a kid. It was so much fun to go sledding and build snowmen. Then I grew up and had to to drive to college then to work when I graduated. That was no fun.....at all.

I moved to south Florida for nearly 25 years and then moved back u north to New Jersey for 16 years. Had to do it all over again with the freezing temperatures, snow and ice. My hands in the winter months stayed cracked and bleeding no matter what lotion I used. I won't ever miss shoveling the white stuff and chopping away the ice. NEVER.

Living up north in the cold will always be more dangerous than living in the south with the heat. Driving is a very big problem in the cold climates compared to clear roads all the time in the south.

I miss the winter in NYC (kept the crime down, lol). I don't like the lightning strikes and the booming thunder we get here in the villages starting in the spring. If you never have been through that, you will surprised.
