OH yeah I heard of that place, it's a drinking community with a golfing problem.

For a good while George was known as "No Show Jones" because he was frequently so soused he failed to show for performances. George Jones Survived

When I first arrived in The Villages i was astonished to see Happy Hour advertised as starting at 3:00 p.m. on a couple of signs. Then at Katie Belles it was all day, price wise. I noticed rather early (pre noon) drinking as well.

I believe a lot of retired people gradually slip into drinking before 5:00 p.m. or whatever used to be their after work happy hour time. It happens all over, not just in The Villages although the environment in TV seems to be conducive to anytime drinking. Alcohol abuse among the elderly is a problem today, not to mention both prescription and street drug abuse in addition to their interaction with ingested alcohol. Based on the estimated current population of 115,000+/- within The Villages, the number of DUI's probably isn't any higher than elsewhere, other than the number involving golf cart drivers. And driving a golf cart while under the influence on the golf cart paths is bad news for all of us.

I do think there is a larger DUI problem than we actually see, but not only are older people violators, there are a lot of under 55 people arrested too. I see a lot of articles titled i.e. "Villager arrested for DUI", but then I see that the age of the offender is anywhere from teens to 80's. Many are younger than retirement age. Many are the loser children of retired homeowners here in The Villages. With growth has come crime!

You should also be aware that DUI's are a money maker for Lake, Sumter and Marion. They can arrest you for DUI even if you blow under the limit.

Also, .08 is a joke. A drinker at .08 is much safer than many of our pill popping neighbors.

there is a huge drinking problem in the villages-- cheap drinks, 2 for 1 drinks , and open bars at the town centers all pushing alcohol. People running thru gates, cars running over lawns, and almost hitting a house on hillsourgh. I doubt if the cops are catching the drinkers, but there is sure plenty of them.

One lady was driving on hendry, and was on the wrong side of the road, and almost hit me on a harley. I followed her to a rec. Center, she got out of the car and could hardley talk. I should have called the cops on her.

too much dringing in the villages-- alcohol is pushed at every location- 2 for 1 , cheap drinks, happy hours that last all day

I don't drink so I don't have a dog in this fight. Alcohol is legal and sold everywhere in this country.


AND arresting people for DUI is not a "money maker" it is an act of protection for all.
