IMO the only reason to have it is so you can pay an extra $300 a year for NFL Sunday Ticket( at least that’s how much it was when I punted it).
I pull plug on my direct tv at least once every 3 weeks, when the closed caption starts to slow down a little , it happens on other cable systems also I have been told , but anyway system comes back in about 5 minutes.I’m very happy with the service and the price is right for me , I don’t care about premium channels, but even if I was unhappy with the service, I would never leave direct as long as they have the NFL ticket no matter how much the price , because one I love NFL football and two I love to gamble on it

DirectTV is available through AT&T as streaming. All you need is Internet. Watch on your TV or computer, laptop. tablet all delivered via your router. No dish on the roof. No weather interruptions.

Please don't listen to anyone that states that an SD picture is "almost as good" as an HD picture. If your eyesight is fine, there is a tremendous difference. The bigger the TV, the bigger the difference you will see. An SD picture on a 60"+ TV looks terrible - like you're watching an old VCR tape.

I was a customer of DirecTV for over 20 years until I moved to Florida. The number of rainouts here is ridiculous. Yes, sometimes you can still get the picture in SD, but it's bad.

All "HD" pictures are not created equal - everybody compresses the signal differently, and some compression algorithms are far worse than others for picture quality. DirecTV, using satellite transmission, has a far more limited bandwidth than terrestrial transmissions (cable, fiber, etc), so they tend to compress the initial signal far more than other companies, resulting in a poorer HD experience (hence why some think SD is not bad on DirecTV).

Get good internet service, and then look at streaming options. I use YouTube TV - it works great. Hulu Live is fine, but look at the costs for DVR and how it works. That was the indicator for me to not use Hulu Live (I tested it for 30 days).

DirecTV stream is more expensive and offers less channels and a crappy DVR, so they were a no go as well.

I get 1GB internet for $65/month, and YouTube TV for $54.99/month (you get $10/month off if you're T-Mobile). No issues, works great.

Pretty sure NFL Ticket is going elsewhere...maybe Apple TV. Can't recall right now.

Default DIRECTV streaming at ATT

I switched to DIRECTV streaming about 4 months ago. No satellite dish. All you need is internet. DIY. Easy setup at home. However if you have a 20 year old tv you won’t be able to set it up. You need an HDMI connection on the back of your tv.
Go to the ATT store in your neighborhood. 64$ a month and they can never raise your rates

You should have stopped telling us that are HD picture is bad on our sets when you said you used to be a customer before you got to Florida , I’m very happy with my picture but perhaps I don’t know any better ,and I have my Turner Classic Movies , 2 PBS stations lots of sports channels and all the network shows for I think about $110 the other stuff is just what it is , so I’ll muddle along happy and oblivious to the fact that I’m watching an inferior picture on my one year old 65 inc Sony, FYI I don’t bargain shop for clothes I’m not going to do it for cable, some people look for bottom line , me I don’t care

All this "who ha" about Dish or Direct TV in thunderstorms is BS. Will they lose signal during severe weather, Yes it does happen for but just for a few minutes. We've had Dish TV for almost 20 years and love having the DVR storage in our set top box as well as connectivity to multiple other TV's and wireless devices (phone, laptop, ipads, ect).

As for NFL Sunday Ticket, we get the NFL Redzone which shows all the best plays, as they happen, from all the games every Sunday (with no commercials).

Yes. Had it for several years but dropped it after ATT took over and really messed it up. Minimal problems with weather delays. Now stream with xfinity and really happy with that.

Exactly.

We've been on DirecTV since 1996 here in Indiana, overall pretty happy with it. Very rarely do we lose signal here. I have it at our home there as well. But since we're not retired until December, and are only there for a week at a time I have DTV there too.

But I will say it's getting a bit expensive and I'm looking into streaming. I have it down to YouTube tv or DirecTV streaming. Not in a big hurry until we start snowbirding.

For what it's worth CNET rated YouTube tv the best overall streaming service.

It's not even close to "Six of one half dozen of another". When I had Xfinity, I lost internet once in 4 years, and that was during hurricane Irma. Since switching to Quantum fiber several years ago, I haven't had a single outage.

When I had DirecTV, outages were daily during rainy season - at least 30-50 times per year. Even if it's only a few minutes, it sucks when you recorded a game, and then the picture is out on the recording for minutes at a time.

NFL Sunday Ticket is about to move off of DirecTV within the next year, but I've found other ways to watch all the games I want at home.

Thats weird. I very seldom lose signal here, even when it rains. Must be the difference in geography?
