One person had a solution to the habitual pooper. He would wait until the dog and owner came along, and as the pooch went for his favorite spot the home owner was in the garage and turned on the sprinklers in that area soaking the dog and owner.
I figured it took a couple of times and it should have stopped. What do you think??

Some people are born with the insatiable desire to get deep into others business and the next large group are those that do as they please without a single thought about how someone might be offended by what they do. They just don't care.

We have a very large lot and I have told all my neighbors that walk their dogs to use my property as much as they wish, just stay back from the house. What happened to you is disgusting.

Turning on the sprinkler would be funny!! In no way do I ever want to hurt a dog so putting pepper or anything else down on purpose is out of the question. Pet owners should consider the amount of chemicals that go into having a nice lawn though. You let your dog walk all through my treated lawn and then it goes in your house on your carpet and furniture. Not too bright! I love dogs but do not have one because the properties here aren't conducive to letting the dogs out in your own yard and walking them can be a hassle if you live far from a public area where you SHOULD walk them. A villa would work great for the dog owner who doesn't respect others' property. I appreciate all the dog owners who are responsible. Fortunately there are a lot of those people here in the Villages too!!

I can only imagine ... upset indeed! You were in the right.

I would have spoken to him as the dog got closer. I would have tried to be friendly about it, but it probably would have deteriorated given the pet owners obliviousness to common courtesy and common sense.

I agree, as it is not likely someone would do that to be a Kirk. I feel they are just clueless. Very sad.

Unfortunately Gracie, I think your comments fall on deaf ears to those few who are so negative. I know you like dogs and certainly don't like disrespectful owners...I don't either. I just wish the energy put into the bitterness that these folks express would be put into something beneficial to the community. The nasty solutions are just that.....nasty and uncalled for.

Pet owners need to be in control of their dog, not the other way around.

I am a pet owner. I don't mind a dog "going" on my grass as long as the owner picks it up. Those leashes that extend are terrible because the pet owner has no control.

That's nice you dont mind them using your lawn But I think it sends a mixed message to the owners of the dog. I dont want them on my lawn PERIOD.

I don't even care if they pick up from my back area, but no one should allow a dog on anyone's lawn without permission.

Dog walkers that use those 20ft. leashes have a plan! They figure the dog con do its business on your lawn long before the walker even gets to your house so you won't see them coming. The dog is down low and the walker is 20 feet back. I believe those leashs are dangerous and should be againest the LAW!! P.S. I am a dog lover and owner

Do you have a solution to keeping dogs off of personal property that you could share?

Unfortunately, there is no real way to keep dogs off a lawn, I 'm afraid.

We have no sidewalks and we really can't walk a dog in the middle of a street.
Even if we humans walk in the street close to the non-existent curb, the dog really has to be on the grass.
Particularly during the warmer months, a dog cannot walk on the blacktop as he will burn his feet.
That's why in my original post I said I didn't care if a dog "made" on my grass as long as the owner picks it up.

Soooooo . . there really isn't any answer.
