Doubt if the Villages' owners would like "Curb Your Dog" signs everywhere. Also do not believe they would put up the dog poop disposal stations placed around the Villages like the one outside PetSmart on 441/27 or the one at Lake Miona County Park. Does not seem to have the aesthetics that the Villages' developer has been going for-- at least in the neighborhoods south of CR466 and some of them sorth of El Camino Real.

No, I don't think anyone of that small percent of poop offenders reads TOTV. If they did, they wouldn't change their behavior. TOTV is sometimes used as a forum for frustrated people to vent, and that is fine. Unfortunately it sometimes paints a negative picture for newbies and people who are considering moving to TV.

P.S. Most of us love dogs!

Actually, back in the day this meant literally poop on the curb, not on the sidewalk, NO POOPER SCOOPING, it was nasty. I don't know where you lived, but we didn't have a "lawn". Now I don't have a curb.

I was glad to see this. I was starting to think I can't think about The Villages as my home until my dog dies!
Dogs poop! Some pick it up, some don't. It is not just the villages, it is the whole world.
Seems like a lot of worrying over a small thing. If my dogs lives to move to The Villages I promise to pick up after her.

I understand the people that does not want dogs to pee or poop on their property- I get it for the 1,000,000th time. I look forward walking with my dogs. They are my motivation to exercise. Having them relieve themselves before we head out sure. Dogs and bitches mark their territory! Can I try to suppress their instinct as we exercise? No! Darn it all it is grass not your living room floor! Give canines a break. I can put diapers on them but how silly would that be. When they decide they need to pee or poop you will not see me dragging them back to my yard. It just won't happen I will have clean-up supplies and a bottle of water to dilute the urine and if it will make you rest easier I will have a squirt bottle of Otoban so it will take away the smell. So when you see a Shar Pei and a Basset/shar Pei walking alone side a very proud smiling lady with a packpack full of supplies to appease those that continue to go on and on.. Wave and I will be proud to introduce you to my family. I can't introduce you to my human family as they are no longer living. Stop being so mean!!!!

OK. I'm going to address recent posts assuring newcomers that "it depends on the neighbors and neighborhoods". This afternoon, when I swam laps at Laurel Manor sport pool, as I entered there was a man standing in the middle of the lawn around the pool building watching his large dog as it sniffed around looking for the right place to poop/pee. The man just stood there, daydreaming and holding the leash, and following the dog around in the lawn as it snooped around slowly. It was obvious the man thought this was a fine place for a dog dumping ground. When I got into the pool the man was still there, daydreaming as the dog roamed around (on leash). Then, an hour later, as I left the pool building, ANOTHER man and his dog (different breed, so I know it wasn't the same guy as before) were slowly moving around in the lawn there, and obviously the owner was waiting for the dog to do his dooty.

Now. I love dogs and have one, but I don't take our dog to a rec center lawn for it to take a dump and pee on "somebody else's" grass. Maybe these two dog owners picked up the poop, or maybe they didn't. The point is, those rec center or neighborhood pool/postal center lawns are not to be used as dog dumping stations.

It takes a quart of water to dilute urine enough to prevent killing the grass. One little bottle won't work, especially if you have a marker who's peeing every 50 feet.

Really, a four- or six-foot leash and some training is all that's needed. Use the dog parks to let dogs sniff and mark, not other people's yards.

This post reaffirms once again, the need for more dog parks in The Villages.

chris - please go back and read post #10 - i must agree with mikers31 - picking up after one's family will always be appreciated - having to watch one's family pee and/or poop while i am dining or enjoying a cocktail on my front facing lanai is really quite disgusting and very much not appreciated. i find the latter actions to be mean to me!
