Drove out to Fenny yesterday.....5.2 miles from the Morse/Hwy 44 stop lite to the Fenny entrance gate (a pretty long golf cart drive) The new rec center and circle with model designer homes is a beautiful park like setting, shaded by many large oak trees, and attractively landscaped. The model hames have large yards and all the upscale amenities inside. Outside this area where lots of homes are under construction, it is pretty much treeless, with lots of "kissing lanais" just like every where else in the Villages. I can see why they included a Grille in the only rec center....otherwise the nearest dining establishment would be in Brownwood or the plaza near Rohan.

Plus, and I think more important, is none of the folks locked up are guilty of anything. Just ask 'em.

Did anyone see the movie "Gangs of New York"? In the last scene, they showed the graves of the two antagonists in Brooklyn, looking across the East River to Manhattan, and did a 150 year time lapse of how the city built up. From small wooden buildings and dirt streets with horses to skyscrapers and bridges. This is TV---from a small trailer park, to what it is today, to what it will be in a few years. There will plenty of places to eat around Fenney and all the new villages, plenty of shopping, probably a town square, many pools, rec centers and adequate golf. The developers have ridden their formula to success for 40 years, and I doubt they will change it now, with a generation of boomers ready to retire. Heck, at this rate, in 50 years there will be a referendum on the ballot to change the state name from Florida to TV.

Well, 90% are "innocent". The other 10% are "innocent" but guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If another one gets built it most likely will be further (area closer to 75) so as not to dilute the investment made on Brownwood.

Just my thoughts........

That is not the only rec center, you didn't drive far enough. Also south of the rec center is a huge green space that will not be touched by development. Of course they are going to cram in as many homes as possible but in phase one alone there are homes built on 5 lakes/ponds which adds to the depth of the lots and give privacy from the rear, you just have to be willing to pay the price to have one. The spec homes and villas range from $130 to $670, something for everyone.

Yes, that is in the plans. There is even an existing bridge that used to be used for live stock that will be used to cross The Turnpike. (at least that is what I have read here on TOTV) Bring provisions if you want to cart to Spanish Springs, however.

Hubby and I live in Mallory Square which at this point is mid way between Brownwood and Spanish Springs. We love to listen to music at the squares and are very fortunate to have a wonderful location to be able to cart to all three town squares in a few minutes with Lake Sumter Landing (my personal favorite) nearly a stone's throw away.

We visited Fenney a couple of days ago. We drove along Morse which becomes 468. Oh my goodness....the homes along 468 are not very nice. The entire stretch of road looks like "Tobacco Road". The salesman at Fenney sales center assured us The Villages owns all of that land and the dilapidated homes will all be gone eventually. I asked him if there were any "hold outs" and he said there are always "hold outs". OK then.

I must say Fenney is absolutely gorgeous. Love the old Live Oak trees and the tranquil setting. BUT.....it's not for hubby and me. Fenney is too far from everything by cart. I would feel isolated living there. I also felt the homes on standard lots seem to be closer. The recreation center pool is a family pool. It is a beautiful pool but we much prefer neighborhood pools which are adults only.

We prefer to be closer to the 441 run of retail shopping and restaurants. It's so nice to drive along that stretch of 441 and see the shopping centers landscaped the same as The Villages. That short hop along 441 has so many of the stores and restaurants we were used to up north. We don't want to have to drive half an hour or more every time we want to go shopping there. I would imagine there will be shopping closer to those who live in Fenney but the stores and restaurants won't be in The Villages.

Good luck to those who purchase in Fenney. As others have said before me, it is not for everyone.

Yikes! Another reason Fenney is not for me.

Sorry to say but the post about the prison being near by is very valid. I don't see why folks shouldn't voice what is around Fenney and may have an impact on daily lives.

Just thought of another reason Fenney is not for me. I love to swim in the sports pools. From my location, I have two sports pools very close via cart and Seabreeze sports pool is doable by cart. I really prefer to be closer to the main part of The Villages.

Will there be a neighborhood pool at the second rec center or will it be a sports pool? Hubby and I didn't go far south enough to see the second rec center.

I think that's pretty much a moving target.

Or more like...wherever you live becomes YOUR main part of The Villages.

the Blue Herron rec center's grand opening for a sneak preview is tomorrow, it's on Fenney Way less than 2 miles from the entrance. Spanish Moss rec center is open also. That's 3 pools to choose from already.

Of course only an opinion. With the development costs, buildings, all of the beautiful 'details' (bronze cattle, Paddock Square, etc), and a low occupancy rate I can't imagine another downtown too close to Brownwood. Why dilute the investment? Get Fenny connected to Brownwood first to increase the traffic.
Further expansion south/southeast/southwest may then warrant another downtown. Again only my opinion.

You are wrong, there is a large amount of land between Fenney and the Prison. There is a large active Quary in between along with more land. The prison is close, but not next to it.
