Any idea why there isn't an approved permanent stop sign at each gate?

One would think that a gate area where the arm is unexpectedly missing, that crashes would happen at a huge rate. Golf carts would be expecting the car to stop, and cart would dart out into the traffic lane directly in front of the vehicles.
I recall plenty of publicity about carts crashing all over the place EXCEPT at any crossing with a missing gate arm. We hear about every cart crash, but that number pales in comparison to how many cars crash. There's nothing sensational about a car crash, so those do not get the hype in the news media.

Yet the doom and gloom posts continue, even though crashes are just not happening.
I think this is an excellent argument for removing ALL traffic lights and stop signs in The Villages.

Or legal.

I think ideally they should only keep the gates closed from dusk until dawn. Then most people would realize that we're just a "community with gates" vs a "gated community"

It's traffic control. There's more traffic during the day than there is at night. An alternative would be to have a fully-functional stop light at EVERY gate with special timing for golf carts to cross. But that would back up traffic on all the main roads, since that's where most of the gates are located.

Some of the reasons that I recall:
- The number of valid cards had outgrown the capabilities of the old software
- The new software will make it easier to disable invalid cards and since not all the gates are on public roads this will improve security at those other gates
- The new software will allow the use of new readers that are compatible with long-range systems that can work from within the car without the need to roll down a window
thx for info!

June 5th my cloned mirror disc still working.

This update to the card reader software does not affect the existing red button functionality.

Outside of TV losing revenue from ppl not buying their replacement /addntl gate cards... What are the cons of letting or caring if ppl have a clones gate chip in their mirror for "their" convenience?

(Following OP on what actually will occur to block them) .

This should not affect anyone using the cards issued by the District. On the other hand, software upgrades rarely go as smoothly as planned. I wish they would just get on with it and activate the new software so we would know what is going to break.
