My cards are 23 years old and we purchased 2 additional cards back then as well so we had one for each car, one for the golf cart and one for the motorcycle. I'm hoping all 4 will still work. Guess I'll find out on Monday. Hopefully their records go back that far. Guess we'll see. Keeping my finger's crossed.

So many residents take off from barriers like NASCAR drivers. |

Now here's an idea that could be implemented: Only have the red button on the guest entrance side. Force non-residents to go past gate house (where one exists). Would enhance the false appearance of a gated community and perhaps discourage some of those who have no legitimate business entering a residential section. It would be similar to a true gated community where all non-residents have to stop at the gatehouse, except they would not have to be checked in, just waved through or hit the button where there is no gatehouse, or it is unattended. I think the prospect of a clear camera image of their face would also discourage those with ill intent.
Yes, there will be times when a resident drops, fumbles or forgets their card, but then we could ostracize them on social media, as usual ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The problem with having non-residents be mechanically forced to go through one gate, and not the other:
Many (MANY) visitors go through the wrong gate. That'd mean - when they get to the wrong gate, they'll now have to back out from their position in front of the gate, so they can get into the correct lane. They can't do that if there's a line of cars behind them. Imagine the nightmare on 466 if that's how it worked at the Morse gate. |

So, why can't the software designer do a simple test and publlsh the results explaining why the clones will no longer operate?

Why should they???? People who have these cloned cards just need to know they will no longer work; they don't need to know why. Remember, no one should have a cloned card in the first place.

So now with rainy season coming, we will have to put our windows down to open the gates. How stupid is this?

Tens of thousands of residents have been doing just that for decades before you arrived - you will survive.

I got a little closer, put my card next the closed window and the gate opened. Not stupid at all. ![]()

Not exactly. When I called The Villages District Administration office, they told me that there is no rule against cloning the gate cards for personal use.
