20 years ago, the red buttons did not automatically open the gates. The red button was pushed, a real person then spoke to you through a speaker, (apparently) validated your reason for entry and then opened the gate.

My valid cloned gate card worked fine today, June 1st. I have asked District staff many times about what data is collected and who sees that data from using the gate cards. Every time I get the runaround to not get a answer to my direct questions.

Gates and gate cards are here to say. I don't mind gates as I am using using my cloned gate card in the mirror to auto open the gates.

I think they should get rid of them. Just another expense for PUBLIC PROPERTY? MAKES ZERO SENSE.

I am a full time resident non owner. I drive a jacked up silverado. I have to OPEN MY DOOR to currently track that stupid button and I want to destroy the system every time I have to use it.

I'm paying for the house in live on. Why should I be treated as a second class citizen? OWNERS OF FULL TIME RENTALS SHOULD HAVE TO GIVE US THEIR PERMANENT CARD FOR DURATION OF LEASE.

Most likely for the same reason speed bumps amd speed tables are used, to slow down traffic to safe speeds.

The cards in use are made to a standard for how they operate. The reader (the 6 inch square panel on the pedestal) is constantly transmitting a "is there a card out there" signal. That tiny bit of RF energy is captured by the card, used to power up the card, and send out its long ID number. Buy WHY? Since the red button allows anyone to enter, who cares what method is used to get past?

I wish the announcement was " To enhance to convenience for all residents, we will now allow any RFID card to open the gates. That includes all vehicle toll devices such as Ezpass. "
Which also begs the question... why don't the entry gates behave same as the exit gates? Overall same functionality, at a much lower cost.

Agree, but many are resistant to change and wish to maintain the illusion of a gated community.

It's just one of the charms of the Villages.

So this really does not change a thing in reality, you still have a red button that anyone can push and enter our Villages and in fact at times the gate keepers will wave the visitor lines in quicker than the resident lines. This still does not address the people that we would want to keep out and ask yourself how any outsiders are using our lakes and pods for fishing, sneaking in and using our pools, pickle ball courts and shuffle board courts.
The gates are nothing more than a false sense of security and in fact the Shay gate has no gate bars at all and all the people who work them do is wave to everyone that goes by, what an absolute waste of time and money.

Burnt out window motors, drag racers using visitors gates, arm may get wet when raining, car is too big, even Stone Cresters taking over all the facilities.
