These would be common-sense moves but unfortunately, money talks and you-know-what walks. For all their supposed concern about safety, airlines still liquor up their passengers and the same with ballparks, who then shake their heads sanctimoniously at out-of-control, drunken fans who use bad language and act in offensive, inappropriate ways. They make a lot of money on those $10 beers!

So the logic is: since there is only a probability of death of 0.005 per 100,000 flight hours, it is fake news to report any plane crash when it does occur? Sure, that makes sense.

I agree, but it has gotten worse over the years (see Post No. 73). You used to be able to check a few bags for free, and almost all airlines assigned seats in advance. And, they gave you a halfway decent meal for free. But, I think the biggest change that has affected passenger conduct is the aggressive marketing and pricing schemes designed to fill every seat on every plane. The planes are too crowded. I know they need to make a profit, but, I can remember when most flights had empty seats and you could stretch out and be more comfortable. I would rather pay more for more space. First class is an option, but I think the cost is not in line with the value, and it is really not designed to address the overcrowding problem.

If true then - Portugal with a 98 % vaccination rate will not need masks on passengers departing from their airports.
And I go back to wondering why the US does? |

The question was the CAUSE of increased numbers of unruly passengers, and I suggested that unhappiness with the mask policy was a big factor. It has nothing to do with the vaccination rate of Portugal

Well, considering the Vaccination rate in Portugal is only 84%, not 98% (shocker, I know!)... Oh wait, it STILL has nothing to do with the conversation...

I expect masks are the direct cause of most of the altercations, but I also expect it is not the root cause, and my expected root cause can not be discussed on this forum.

I think that's part of it throw in the confusion of what ruling or suggestions were made this week or next. People are just generally getting tired and peeved off!
